Guillen, Simmons, Perkins show form

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Batsmen Justin Guillen, Lendl Simmons and William Perkins all showed good form Sunday, as trials began to select Trinidad and Tobago’s team for the upcoming regional first-class cricket season.

After the first scheduled day was rained off on Saturday at the National Cricket Centre (NCC), lovely weather greeted the players Sunday.

The national selectors decided to play a 50-over match and Samuel Badree’s XI came away with an eight-wicket win over Amit Jaggernauth’s XI.

Batting first, Jaggernauth’s team posted 199 all out in 42 overs with Perkins hitting a fierce 92-ball 75 that included 11 boundaries.

He received good support from all-rounder Richard Kelly who struck 47.
The pick of the bowlers for Badree’s team were Rishi Bachan (3-36), Shannon Gabriel (2-28) and Rayad Emrit (2-23).
Guillen and Simmons then set about the target and posted an impressive 154-run stand for the second wicket.
They took the win at 200 for two off 34 overs.

Guillen finished 90 not out off 102 balls with 11 fours and a six.
Simmons, who retired out seven runs short of the winning target, scored 75 off 113 balls with seven fours and a six.
The players will return to the NCC on Thursday to start a four-day trial match.
