You tell him Carl! Dr. Merai is in Canada with the wool pulled over his eyes. I feel sorry for Dr. Merai as he too admittedly got the shake-down.

Dr. Merai, when next you hear from your bro, ask him the real reason why he was running through Pineapple Street with guns blazing behind his backside.

This appointment is shameful. Imagine putting someone who has been embroiled in that sort of disgusting “runnings” in a position of more power.

The people should call for a hearing into the day, today operation of the Department of Home Affairs and the Guyana Police Department before this get ugly. Big Jag, are you willing to give Merai the test by bring a contractor to diliver the test? If so how soon? All Guyanese people need to be respected….not some.

I understand Merai has just built a huge mansion in Prashad Nagar, thanks to the meagre salary the government is paying police officers

  4. Mackydog UNITED STATES says:

How in God’s name can Steve “Bobby” Merai get promoted? Man, the police still find a way to promote and appease those with serious allegations against them within. Steve Merai was trying so hard to leave the police force and Guyana when he went to Canada and tried to gain Landed Immigrant status as a refugee but was denied by the Canadians because his life was not in danger and he was capable of being protected by the Guyana police force. What was in danger was him being definitely arrested and tried by the GT court, but he has friends there so he’s still not prosecuted till now… It bother’s me to see people like Merai and more like him in the GPF still there and is being rewarded for their nasty ways.

  5. Dr Peter Merai UNITED STATES says:

Good morning to everyone. I am Dr Peter Merai and I live in Maryland, USA. A client of mine stated my name was in an article on the Guyanese website. I went and read it and also investigated another article where people give their views after reading. It all has to do with my brother Steve Merai. I have never written anything on any website about Steve Merai. He is a policeman and I have heard all kinds of things about him. I left Guyana in 1983 and it is impossible for me to follow the works of my brother. But I have heard a lot. Did he also kill innocent people? maybe, I don’t know. That is a very unsettling and scary thought. I do not support violence of any kind. I have two other brothers in Guyana and they also do not support violence. My whole existence is based on the preservation of life. Everyone in the family over here cringes at the news of Steve’s crazy interactions. There was always deep worry especially form my mother. I am sorry to say this but we often wondered about that(italics) call made to say that Steve was shot and killed because he has a horrible job. I visited Guyana in 2005 for my sister in law’s funeral. I didn’t hang close with Steve and stayed at the Rorima Residence Inn hotel. I wanted to return to my family alive and because of what I was hearing about my brother, that was a prudent move but it was also a sad way to think. I have told Steve numerous times to stop doing that black clothes business. We in the Merai family were very glad to hear the black clothes were no longer in operation some time ago. I do have two email addresses: petermerai@yahoo.com and petermerai@comcast.net. Many of my patients know my email addresses and a lot of them are Guyanese. A lot of themn could not believe Steve is my brother. Steve is a kind man. He is always calm. He often said we don’t understand his line of work and should stay out of his business. As far as I can remember everyone in the Merai family wanted Steve to be a normal policeman and not do all that black clothes stuff. Anyone can contact me at my office 301-567-9844. Stabroek news has no authority to print an artile with my name without first contacting me. To the person who is using my name: please stop immediately!

    • undecided... GUYANA says:

Wow… this is becoming more and more interesting… now that SN print the comment by who we thought was Steve’s brother, will they print this disclaimer of sorts… staying tuned…

Someone is masquerading on this web site with my identity.
Steve Merai is not amused, neither am I.

I am uclear as to the purpose of your writings.
I will not broadcast personal information pertaining to the Merai family on the internet.

Maybe you are using spoofing technology. There are ways to track down an IP address.

    Stop what you are doing.
You are giving me a migrane and grossly irritating others.

    Thank you.
    Peter Merai.
