That is my problem with you Evileyes; you want the PNC followers to accept and apologize for their wrong doing (and rightly so)if there were any, but you continue to deny the ills of the PPP government. One word is my example of marginalization and discrimination; LINDEN!

Re: "[...This is about the Guyanese perception of the pnc as an incompetent group that ruined Guyana. According to international estimates Guyana will take 14 to 18 years to get out of the mess the pnc has put our country in.

That time is coming due. With all the setbacks, flooding etc.the country economic growth is up to script. The pnc wants to share in that.
I remember in 1992, they have given the pop three years in office. They claim the ppp would not know how to govern, ha, ha, ha.
The next phase of development is oil, hydro, aluminum plant...]" While you are busy yapping away "bbuckman", do you mind telling us if you have read the presentation by the late Desmond Hoyte to the PNC's Biennial Congress in 1979 titled - "A Socialist Economg Through Agricultural, Industrial and Technical Development"?.

And, always remember - "There Can Be Nothing New Under The Sun"!

What does shared government means? The pnc has parity on all the boards and state corperations, somrthing that was never seen under the pnc regime, while in office.
So this is not about it members, getting jobs or fairness about Guyanese.

To make long story short, they want be a part of the cabinet. There is no need for that. According to our constition, the opposition leader is consulted; parliamentary committee has some pnc members as chairman.
We have balance, fairness, and a national government.

This is the best thought out solution that I have read so far. You have nailed it absolutely perfect. Unfortunately there is none in the PNC with common sense enough to appreciate the depth of what you wrote above. They have to lay a foundation through ground work politics for all the people of the country. The party leadership has to wake up and accept it must represent all the people, not only in words, but in action.

Hello Stabroek News (SN)! As a Naturalized U. S. Citizen and a User of Internet I ascribe to one of our "Rights" that is enshrined in the U. S. Constitution and the "Usage of The Internet" that is known as "The Freedom Of Speech" which is always upheld in the USA; and, the assumption is that it is the same in Guyana. So, as to why an earlier comment in response to one by "miltonbruce" when he made reference to the late Dr. Jagan; (and, in which an extract from a Stabroek News article was posted) it boggles the mind as to whether or not Stabroek News is afraid of it's own "shadow" or is it "censorship"!

The PNC presents itself as the Afro party of Guyana and complains that there is racial voting. The party has 28 years of horible politics like an albatros around its neck. They adopted an opposition policy of slow fiya and more fiya after 1992. This is a modern time and power sharing is not the answer. The answer is grass roots politics in all communities. Identifying problems and advocating for solutions. Community organization and winning the minds and hearts of the communities is the future. Can the PNC accomplish that? Is there any evidence that there is any genuine advocacy of community problems?

The PNC needs to gain the confidence of the people by becoming advocates of causes that are national and relates to all peoples of Guyana. To share power on the basis that its representation is only for a particular ethnic group is unacceptable. It is ridiculous to conclude that race voting is end of it. The fact is that the PNC has demonstrated a lack of creativity. I do believe the AFC will emerge as a credible political party with state craft that will satisfy all guyana and a modern guyana.

I cannot agree with Trotman more. Do away with the party list and elect representatives of the constituency to parliment. A good example is Sam Hinds, he supossely represents Linden, but is not there when matters important to Linden is discussed in parliment.

What is Mr.Corbin talking about???.There is already shared government in Guyana. The opposition is part of the government, just that Mr.Corbin doesn't know how to be effective in his role as opposition leader.I hope he wakes up,smells the coffee and recognise that as the oppostion leader in parliament he has a right to see that 46%(those who voted against the PPP)of the country share in the state's resources.

I am begining to question Mr Corbin's wisdom about everything political since it appears to me right now that he sees himself as useless.

evileyes happy new year to U my friend............. much success in 09.

It's true that certain segments of the guyanese society are "discriminated against and marginalised". I will take you up on that anytime.

However, I do agree with everything else you said. I have long held the view that relics like Green and Corbin should be assigned a place at the Smithsonian.

Though the concept of “inclusiveness” and “shared Governance" may be worth some consideration, Corbin should be ashamed to vent those sentiments. Afterall, it was under the "leadership" of the PNC, that Guyana went through a period of hell on earth, assumedly with their (Green/Corbin) fullest blessing.

That they have the gumption to be promoting themselves as "agents of change", is what I find ridiculous. Has either of the two ever apologised to this nation for their involvement in what was a very oppressive regime? If the answer is no then why the hell do they even have a voice today?

I remembered many moons ago that the current president was hailed as the "new blood", "fresh thinker" and a "visionary".

I guess he's a late bloomer or maybe I'm giving him too much credit.

Corbin, loser at the polls, and loser in his own party,on your way out, most likely for good, you must be kidding.Do you really believe what you do can be called anything? The PNC never won any election,so no one appreciates their call for power sharing They have a past record that eliminates them from sharing anything or any form of governance in Guyana. Possibly forever. If I may recall, in a so called election in the seventies, they "won" a rigged landslide, and gave the collaborator, the UF,in a much headlined news cast, one seat.Is this what they are asking for? One seat? As observer? Bcause that is exactly what they were, and are doing.

Shared governance is another rag-tag strategy by Corbin to lay the ground work for mayhem and disorder by the PNC acolytes. After shared governance, what next? Corbin cannot be trusted. His own party is in disarray right now, with no visible hope of getting better anytime soon. Corbin and his likes have no real strategy to offer the Guyanese people a better alternative to the PPP. It is time he step aside and let someone with real leadership abilities and who can offer the Guyanese people something better, take the helm of the PNC.

Perhaps what all the PNC supporters should do is throw their weight behind the AFC who might be a real alternative to the PPP. The AFC will eventually be a party to reckon with.
