Broadcaster Anthony Vieira tendered his resignation as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the main opposition PNCR-1G, but hastily withdrew it after being convinced to stay on by party leader Robert Corbin.

“Mr Corbin didn’t want to even discuss it,” Vieria told reporters yesterday at a party press briefing, adding, “He [Corbin] values my service and I have decided to stay on….“
Vieira was a surprise inclusion on the party’s candidate list at the last general elections and has since served as its shadow minister for agriculture.

He did not go into details about why he felt the need to submit a resignation but it came amidst trouble in the main opposition camp.

Last month, former party Vice-Chairman Vincent Alexander and supporters of his aborted candidacy for leadership of the party announced their withdrawal from several party posts. The announcement followed the party’s decision to recall former executive and Alexander supporter James McAllister as a Member of Parliament (MP).

Since then, there have been debates over Corbin’s leadership of the party as well as a number of calls for him to step down as party leader.

I did mentioned that he was going to quit but i didn’t know that he was going change his mind..maybe Corbin offered him McAllister seat as well………lol

Vieira is a shadow agriculture minister? On what strength?

Wouldn’t he have served the party better in a media/communications environment.

It seems rather easy to get into favorable positions in the PNC/R at the moment. Wasn’t Viera also courting other political parties, such as the leadership of the TUF, before the last general elections? And now he’s an MP and shadow Minister of Agriculture with PNC/R?

  6. Fulano de Tal UNITED STATES says:

I do not totally agree with Mr. Viera on all his views but I would say that in the absence of Alexander, Backer, Joseph, McAllister & other brains of the party he might just be among the best of the remnants. Corbin would do well to relinquish the leadership to him to see what bit of grace can be saved. On the contrary, Tony has just lent himself to give credit to Corbin’s shameless ploys.

  7. let mr vieira take over the leadership of the PNCR since it seems to me that the present head of the party is incumbent. there seems to me that alot of rivalry is going on secretly in the PNCR camp and persons that tend s to speak out against defauletrs are not allowed to stay on in the party . so mr vieira is a no nonesense man and he talks his story plain.

seeing that he was begged to stay onn i think corbin shoul step down and give vieira the opportunity.

corbin once you are at the party helm elections wont be yours anymore. time for new trial give it up dont hold on to sucking straws

    • Soldier UNITED STATES says:

The PNCR like other political parties has standing orders where Vieira cannot fit in, he is not a PNCR member, he is a reform component and as such he is not eligible for the leadership post.

Let it flow, let if flow, let it flowwwww. I’m definitely holding my breath for part two of this saga.

  9. Ultimate W CANADA says:

A drowning man clutches at straw , Corbin is desperate to stay alive , so he’s begging for all the support he could get.
Come off the leadership and the PNCR will be in a a better position to topple the PPP.

As an after thought, it’s just a testing of the waters to determine strength. But let the flow continue, just let it flow!!!!
