The GPF is ill-equipped as it relates to qualified manpower and effective crime-solving techniques. The salaries are unattractive to qualified men/women. Guyana has experienced a brain-drain and are currently dragging the bottom of the barrel to staff a variety of positions within its administration.

The young, brave souls who apply and are accepted are not being properly trained. Some apply because they want to make 'policing' a career and others merely want a paycheck or more (the one they get from the ministry and the 'MORE' from bribes/inducements etc.) Young recruits should be partnered with experienced officers and learn how to conduct themselves within/without the precinct.

Officers/detectives should be trained to respect confidentiality, develop contacts/informants within/without neighborhoods, interpreting forensics/ballistics evidence, tenacity, interrogation with the ability to obtain confessions etc, etc.

IMPORT THE RELEVANT TRAINING TO GUYANA IF IT IS TOO EXPENSIVE TO SEND THE OFFICERS ABROAD.

I say AGAIN, let the entire GPF watch 'The First 48' to learn how to detect and solve crime.

By the way, is there still a ballistics expert in Guyana?

Instead of the government sending army officers for training to fight a war that we cannot sustain for 10 minutes due to lack of equipment and funds, the money would be better spent on our university graduates in the field of forensic science.

Quote: " Crime Chief Seelall Persaud attributes this to the force’s limited forensic capacity, lack of cooperation from witnesses and the public and the exodus of experienced officers".

So it has been nailed down, or is it really so?

The Crime Chief should add:

1. no suitable forensic skills

2. continued intimidation of witnesses and the public in continued
 arrogant impolite behaviours

3. the ever practising attitude that better is better outside

No Chief, you got it wrong. The Britsih came and sat you folks down and gave you very very good advices and insights.
How much was really absorbed?
The police at all levels have to court the confidence and faith of the public including the Media (which at times is more important than the public at large), and definitely they will see progress. One TV show which highlights these attributes in THE FIRST 48 HOURS.
Chief, get copies of a few episodes, get your teams to look at them and for sure all of you would get the real message and that is that you cannot solve crimes, especially murders, without the help of informers and the generaL public.

Informers will not come forward if you continue to fail to treat them with utmost respect and provide them with the necessaey confidence that no one on the Teams will leak and disclose to others what such informers have related.

The general perception over the years is that the police have no regard for people, and it would be only the fearless who would dare come forward.

Just look at the recent case of Mr Arokium (spelling)

Its such a shame, that a fellow Guyanese would kill a fellow Guyanese for drugs, a woman, a piece of land, for singing a song "lampy pampy",a gold chain or bagble, a mango and for a plate of food. So shameful.

Mr.Persaud you need to make sure that the cops that are working under you do a better job and stop taking bribes. They need a foresnic lab in Guyana and there should not be any excuses in getting that lab situated in Gt. All these lives has been taken away and the killers are out there living their lives like nothing happened. Life on the whole is a " CHALLENGE " so please do not use that as an excuse because it is not acceptable to the citizens. The police are arresting people and are holding them in Brickdam without even charging them so what is up with that ?

The " FOOLICE FORCE " cannot be trusted, I don't think if you send these Foolice abroad to study how to control crimes and what ever comes with their jobs that it would help because the salary that they are earning is too low and they are so corrupttttt. Do your duty and help catch these heartless killers.

LIVE IN LOVE
PEACE OUT

They need a foresnic lab in Guyana and there should not be any excuses in getting that lab situated in Gt. All these lives has been taken away and the killers are out there living their lives like nothing happened. Life on the whole is a ” CHALLENGE ” so please do not use that as an excuse because it is not acceptable to the citizens. The police are arresting people and are holding them in Brickdam without even charging them so what is up with that ?

The ” FOOLICE FORCE ” cannot be trusted, I don’t think if you send these Foolice abroad to study how to control crimes and what ever comes with their jobs that it would help because the salary that they are earning is too low and they are so corrupttttt. Do your duty and help catch these heartless killers.

LIVE IN LOVE
PEACE OUT

Mr. Seelall Persaud, your crime statistics for 2008 clearly shows why reform of the GPF is so vital at this time. It is also shameful that your department is unable to provide any type of closure to the families of the murder victims.
