Rasta and Amen-ra don’t worry with “evil” his name is so appropriate, he can’t see pass them cup he pelting and the palm trees that missing he.
Unless this Government drops this toll, then everyone who can avoid the bridge will use the ferry. And we will end up with another fiasco/white elephant like Skeldon Factory.
At least we sure in case of an emergency there will be no traffic jams on this bridge…to block the responding vehicles, with the existing rates!!!!!!

For a country that is broke as guyana(dont believe me jus ask Guyanese) its really outrageous to be costing a price more expensive than that of a developing nation. Check this out: $6000, $7000, $4000 these are the prices that surounds the Berbice bridge…What is the average wage for Guyanese?

It is known around the world that children are the future generations of the world and whose responsibility it is to continue the work of the pass generations. In this world of changing technology and the need for a higher standard of education, it seems as though the highest levels of education will only be found in the towns and the city. Our education system does not support the policy of no child being left behind. Hence,with the present situation, if consideration is not given to the children of the West Berbice area to access the highest standard of education available in Guyana, the West Berbice area will definitely have the lowest literacy levels. With this I think that the Government should stop being a government of their ideas and be a government for the people.

Make more job for the people have good jobs for the students who come out of UG and other schools .Make public transportation your job take public transportation to your office .Show the world that you have the best bridges with the world price. School children should either cross the bridge free or get some reduced fare. After all, they do not have an income and parents must support them in their education which includes transportation costs. I do not like the idea of a bicycle to cross because drivers are not careful [most of them] and it will just lead to accidents which we do not need right now. There is not a walkway on the bridge so that is not an option either. Even if there was, the children would probably have to leave home in the dark to get to the other side in good time.
It may mean also they will be arriving home late – another safety issue.

Jena , I support your position on this matter 100% . The school children should cross the Berbice Bridge toll-free . President Jagdeo and his government should resign because they have no vision . Can all of the people who are saying that the toll is too f*$%+? high crazy ??? Government is NOT a profit making organisation – in a democracy , it is government by the people and FOR THE PEOPLE !!! The mis-management of Guyana by the government is the reasons why guyanese are leaving the land of their birth.

1 ALL HIGH END LUXURY VEHICLES SHOULD PAY TOP RATES, NOT JUST BENSCHOP. HE JUST EXPOSED HIMSELF TO REDICULE.

2 THE TOLL IS NOT OUTRAGEOUS FOR ORDINARY MINIBUS USERS: The President pointed out that if a minibus had to use the ferry, it would be charged $800 for each leg of the trip in addition to charges that the operator would have to pay on the number of passengers in the bus. This, the President said would often amount more than G$2,200. HARDLY OUTRAGEOUS!

3 MY FATHER TRADED BETWEEN BERBICE AND GEORGETOWN AND WAS TOO POOR TO HAVE HIS OWN COMMERCIAL VEHICLE. HE HIRED SPACE REGULARLY ON A TRUCK. TRUCKS DO NOT USE THE BRIDGE. THEY USE THE FERRY. NOW THE FERRY SERVICE WILL BE FASTER BECAUSE OF HELP FROM THE BRIDGE. SEEMS TO ME THAT COMMERCIAL USERS OF THE FERRY ARE GETTING A BIG, BIG BENEFIT BECAUSE OF THE BRIDGE.

Wow! The poor school kids have to pay to cross a bridge?! No school busses? I may have a totally different perspective, but for goodness sake, I thought that getting an education/going to school is top priority. Now instead of worrying about homework or grades, the kids have to get “part time jobs” to pay toll fares. Not fair to them or the poor. Based on what I have been reading, this bridge will become another eye-sore and an empty ghost haven, since the majority of the population can’t even afford a proper slice of bread, much less toll fares. May I assume that the “officials” will cross for free?

I think that the kids should use that bridge for free and I mean that without any explanation, those kids are the future of a BRIGHTER, BETTER AND MORE BRILLIANT GUYANA. The kids in school do not have the opporunity that we had back in the days in getting a little something to eat while we were in school, they deserve something so that they can and will be able to give back to our nation in return. Why should school children pay to cross that’s wrong, they should get a free pass only if they are going to school and mini buses carry in only school children to school should get a great discount.
