An excavator from MACORP that was been used by City Hall to effect drainage during the current heavy rainfall season has been vandalized, Mayor Hamilton Green said on Friday.

At a press conference held on Friday at City Hall Green said the excavator was put to work last weekend as part of the initiative to reduce flooding throughout the city.

The excavator was working on Consolidation Road leading to Lamaha Park and between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning parts were stolen. The mayor told the media that he has issued orders for the constabulary and the police to investigate the matter. “No leads will be ignored to find the perpetrators,” Green said.

The mayor also pointed out that the council is working hard to control the piles of garbage that have accumulated across the city, posing a serious risk to the drainage system. He made another appeal to citizens to desist from carelessly dumping garbage.

Meanwhile Acting Town Clerk Yonette Pluck said that 50 per cent of the $38.5 million owed to workers who are represented by the Guyana Labour Union (GLU) will be paid in their January salary. This was agreed when council representatives met representatives of the GLU on Tuesday.

Green also noted that the administration is in a mode of uncertainty while awaiting the report from the commission set up to investigate matters at City Hall.

In typical Guyanese fashion, you see some thing and cant afford it so you have to steal it.
Guyanese dont realize the reputation they have in the carribean and north america about being thieves.
Mention that you are a Guyanese to an Islander the first words from their mouth is “boy can those people steal stuff”. Its embarassing and seem like Guyanese go to school to learn how to steal other peoples money and material belongings.
Its only a matter of time that they(Guyanese) learn how to steal your soul.
