A 31-year-old man who allegedly fractured another man’s nose was granted bail in the sum of $75,000 when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on Friday at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Gregory Ward of 70 Evans Street pleaded not guilty to the charge of inflicting bodily harm to another man.
It is alleged that on January 13, Ward unlawfully wounded Afize Maraj.

However, Ward’s lawyer stated that his client got into an argument with Maraj because the complainant had been constantly taunting him.
The lawyer noted that from information gathered, Maraj first hit his client and Ward retaliated by cuffing Maraj to his face. The defence attorney then applied for bail.

Prosecutor Sherwin Matthews made no objections to the bail application but stated that Ward had cuffed Maraj several times to his face resulting in Maraj sustaining a fractured nose.

The magistrate subsequently placed Ward on bail in the sum of $75,000 and ordered that he return to court on February 20.
