Dead is Vanburn Allicock of Sand Hills, Demerara River, who was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre around 12 noon yesterday. He was stabbed in the region of his heart by a colleague at his place of work at the Sand Hills landing. The man’s wife Simone Allicock, a teacher at the Sand Hills Primary school told Stabroek News that she was at work when she received a phone call telling her that her husband was stabbed.

When she got to the poultry farm where her husband works he had already been placed in a speed boat to be taken to the Docks at Timehri. She said that her husband was absolutely still and she does not believe that he was alive at this point. The woman said that it took more than one hour to get to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre by which time Allicock was pronounced dead.

She could not say much about the events leading up to her husband being stabbed.

Stabroek News visited the man’s godmother who lives in Lodge. Carol Olton said that she received a call from her godson’s relatives who told her that he had died after being stabbed by a colleague. According to the woman her godson was the kind of man who would walk away from altercations. She said that she was told that Allicock and a co-worker had an exchange of words. He had turned around and started to walk away when the man pulled out a knife and stabbed him.

Olton said that she was told that the man escaped in a boat and had not been caught by the police. Olton fondly remembered her godson, whom she baked black cake for every Christmas.

The man leaves to mourn five children, three from the union with Simone Allicock.
