A Timehri teen who allegedly stole a gold and diamond ring from another woman was granted bail yesterday when she appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Eighteen-year-old Parvina Seepersaud of Timehri Public Road, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny. It is alleged that between June 1 and November 31 last year, Seepersaud stole a gold and diamond ring valued $180,000, property of Bhagmatie Abdul.
Abdul, who was also present in court, said Seepersaud and her parents had offered her $20,000 for the ring. When she refused and reported the matter to the police station they then offered to give her $50,000 for it. She said she told them she wanted the exact value of her ring.
However, Seepersaud’s lawyer Sonia Parag said her client never offered Abdul to repay her for the ring. She said it was her client’s parents who had made the offer. Parag said her client denies stealing the ring from Abdul. The defence attorney then applied for bail stating that her client had no previous convictions in the court.
The prosecution made no objections to the bail application and it was subsequently granted in the sum of $70,000. The magistrate then transferred the case to Court Two for February 25.

Some matters can be resolved out of court rather than wasting my tax dollars!!
A rapist was granted 75,000 dollars bail, allowed to leave the country and continue raping women, a young lady with no previous criminal record is granted 70,000 dollars bail. The magistrate in this case should send this young lady to work and pay back for the ring she stole.
Miss.Parvina Seepersaud needs to be taught a life lesson for stealing. She needs to understand that others work hard to buy the things we need and desire in our lives. She needs to get a job and pay back every penny that she stole from Bhagmatie Abdul.
It’s a parent responsibility to teach their children how to be a productive and contributing member of a community. When this fails we have criminals causing degradation of the society.
Naughty, naughty child! she gat big eye fuh nice things…….
It’ not proven in court that she stole the rings, yet you’ve already branded her a thief. What dos’nt add up here is how in the world did Bhagmatie Abdul accused Ms. Seepersaud of stealing her rings between Jun 1st and Nov 31st last year. It’s a SHE say, and DEM say story. This will never stand up in court.
Seems she can’t wait for her wedding day to get a diamond ring , so she decide to steel it now . She got the same mentality like the pick pockets . Throw her in jail , she never had problems with the law ? Well now she got one .
Why the parents of the accused would pay for a ring if she didn’t stole it? Now if found guilty would have to do some time.
wow, between june1 and nov31? this story sounds so fishy. if the “victims” can’t identify a resonable date when the ring went missing then this should be an easy case for the defence.
Exactly my comments above. The whole story smell like a Bangamary!
throw her in jail, but let the rapists, murderers and drug dealers go free?
You people sound bitter…in the court of law, a person is innocent until proven guilty. Let the court be the judge. and stop throwing stones.
Do they really mean that it took six months to steal this ring? What a ring? Well it certainly don’t ring true to me!
If they don’t know when it was stolen – How could they know who stole it??????
yes that is a big gap. to me if a ring is worth so much i would know if its missing within a week time frame. the owner of the ring could of lost it and knowing the young girl wanted the ring she put together that story. i say bring in the evidence and clues. if the girl has it search the house it gotta be somewhere.
