Two persons, including a three-year-old child, have died and another person was injured in two separate road accidents at Essequibo yesterday.
Abdool Zainool, 46, of Middlesex, Essequibo Coast died after being involved in an early morning accident on the public road at Maria’s Lodge, Essequibo Coast.

The accident occurred around 2:25 am and police investigations revealed that Zainool was driving his car, HB 5037, along the roadway, while a pick-up, GLL 4229, was proceeding in the opposite direction.

“It is alleged by the driver of the motor pick-up that the motor car strayed over into his lane resulting in a collision,” the police said in a statement.
Zainool died on the spot, while passenger Mohamed Zaman, 36, of Vilvoorden, Essequibo Coast, was taken to the Suddie Hospital, where he was admitted with a broken right leg. The driver of the pick-up is in police custody assisting with the investigations.

Meanwhile, at 12:25 pm yesterday, a three-year-old girl was crushed to death in front of her Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo home after a minibus ran over her.

Ariel Sahoye had been taken home from school in the minibus, which usually transports school children, the police said.

The police stated that upon arrival at her residence, Sahoye was put off from the vehicle and “the driver then drove off, apparently not realizing that the child was crossing the road from in front of the vehicle. As a result she was struck down and died on the spot.”
The driver of the vehicle has been taken into custody to assist with investigations.

These Drivers are in too much of a rush. They do not take the time to see these school children safely off the road. They have to pay for their mistakes. As soon as the children are out the door THEY MOVE.
Very sad case. A horrible scene to witness.May God give the strenght to the parents to move forward.SN please give name & address of the parents if possible.

what the hell is this. How come a three year old is just put off the bus to cross the road by herself?????? What about the conductor couldn’t he had assisted the child in crossing the road. Yes, the child is three years old, but the driver just moves off without checking to see where the individual is that just left the bus. This is so crazy and I am astound. Stiff penalty for both the conductor and driver. Charge both of them, this is beyond crazy, allowing a three year old child to cross the road on her own with an adult presence.

  4. Alexis GUYANA says:

In the US, about three years ago, a child died similarly, her mom was pushing her in a pram/baby carrier, and she was hit by a car and the child died. Investigations revealed the mom choose to cross, at a scection of the road, where it was dark also there was a pedistrian crossing close by.
    The mom was charged.
How can u leave your child ( THREE years old) to be looked after by a stranger.
It is neglence on behalf of the parent. Also the bus driver. The blame rest squarely on the parent.
The driver did not proceed with caution as he should.
We as parents need to understand no one will care for our children like u will.
I am not defending the driver he will face the law accordingly.
But too often we leave our children unattended, Last week a two year child died falling on a glass.
    These parents should be charged.
I feel sorry for the parent, but we as parents have to put things in place to protect our children, not only from, such an act but from several dangers that are prevelant in this society TODAY.

  5. Uncle Joe UNITED STATES says:

Where was the parent, guardian or other responsible adult to receive such a young child coming home from school? That driver was grossly careless and should also face the maximum penalty.

It was indeed a sad day, i was there after the accident, i still remember the little girl lying on the road, the accident took place at around 12:25 and the body was still on the road after 4pm.I also hope this be a lesson to all parents and drivers to be more vigilant on the roads. My condolences to the family.

  7. ghetto youth GUYANA says:

My condolances to the bereved family.
Mr. Khan, don’t blame the driver, it was an accident which happen.I don’t believe the driver had any intention of killing this child, he had other school children in the vehicle, and he is trusted by these other parents to transport their children to school.
I do believe he is remorseful for this incident but it was not intentional. He probably cannot believe this happen to him so suddenly and maybe he is still stunned at this.

Getto youth, I agree it was an accident. He did’nt willfully do it.
I’ll sum it up a little better. Drivers and conductors have to pay more attention to little children. The bus must not move until they can see the child. The mother is also to blame, but what happen if the bus is a few minutes early, the onus is on the driver & conductor.
Most school buses do not have a conductor. One person a driver.
The Driver has the HANDLE OF THE KNIFE at all times.
No one is looking to blame anyone; This is called who must be in charge, I repeat THE DRIVER CANNOT MOVE UNTIL HE HAS DETERMINED THAT
THE CHILD IS AWAY FROM DANDEG. That’s right It’s his responsibility.
Now for the clincher, if there is a conductor, he should have taken the time to take the child across the road. Case closed.
The above article is not to blame anyone, But to prevent this from happening AGAIN.

  9. leisalle UNITED STATES says:

thats ridiculus the child body was still on the road until 4pm. as caretakers we have a responsiblity. it is the driver’s fault he should of took better precaution. as the conductor he should of escort the child across the street safely or make sure she crosses safe. that driver got to be in a rush because to think the same bus the child got out of HIT her moments later. it was an accident YES but it was carelessness. also, it said the mom expected her child home a certain time and the bus arrived early than she expected. the mom is not responsible for what happened i just dont believe that. i feel sorry for his poor baby her little body was crush. i pray for her and her entire family. god bless you.
