Sherrian Allen, the Port Kaituma teenager who was chopped across the face by her stepfather before he hacked her mother to death, may lose the use of her left eye, relatives said yesterday.

The 16-year-old was air-dashed to the Georgetown Public Hospital early Sunday morning after she was attacked by her drunken stepfather. Deborah Allen, the teen’s mother, was hacked to death.

Doctors have since told relatives that there is a possibility that the teen’s eye may be permanently damaged. Meanwhile, Sherrian is still complaining about blurred vision in her right eye and is expected to be examined by the eye specialist once again today.  A post-mortem examination was conducted on the body of Deborah Allen yesterday at the Port Kaituma Hospital but relatives have not yet managed to obtain the report.

Meanwhile, the police have not yet been able to locate the suspect. Relatives told this newspaper that they are fearful the man will manage to escape from the North West location and will try to locate Sherrian. A request to have a police officer stationed at the hospital for the teen’s safety has been ignored, relatives said.

Police in a press statement on Sunday had said they are investigating the murder of Deborah, and the wounding of her daughter which occurred around 5 am. Investigations, the police had stated, revealed that Allen and her reputed husband had gone to a party during the night and while returning home an argument ensued. According to the police, Allen and her daughter went into a bedroom and locked it after arriving home.

Reports are that the reputed husband broke into the room armed with a cutlass and dealt Sherrian a chop to the face and Deborah several chops about the body. Deborah, the police had informed, was taken to the Port Kaituma Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Sherrian had told Stabroek News that after the attack she was forced to run for about ten minutes, with her wound bleeding profusely, in an effort to get to the police station located at the Water Front.
