Five employees of the Vreed-en-Hoop Cell Link King Phone Shop were attacked and robbed of over $300,000 cash and other valuables by three men, one of whom was armed with a gun, on Saturday afternoon.
Police in a press statement last evening said the robbery occurred at approximately 6.15 pm.
According to them, investigations revealed that 20-year-old salesman Ameer Ahmad of Goed Fortuin and four female employees were in the process of closing the store when three men entered the building.
The attacker who had the firearm in his possession, police said, ordered the victims to lie on the floor. While his colleagues searched and carted off $366,000 in cash, jewellery of the employees, an undisclosed number of cell phones, MP3 Players and digital cameras, the gunman stood guard.
Ahmad, the police stated, reported the incident to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station.
The policeman who took the report immediately sought the assistance of other ranks.
However, he only managed to locate a Traffic Sergeant who was off duty and a female rank.
A search was subsequently launched by the police based on information received about the description of the perpetrators. Contact was also made with other police stations, mobile patrols and the Demerara Harbour Bridge in an extended effort to apprehend the men. However they managed to escape.

like this is a new way of employment “gosh man is every day so these lazy bumps striking and taking off with what does’nt belongs to them ,this situation is really getting out if hand
U right, and if decent citizens are caught with any weapon, they r charged, the problem is, some people in every Gountry has hot heads, allowing persons with weapons, whether licenced or unlicenced, these hot heads usually uses them at the slightest disagreement with another person, therefore, Laws has to be changed in Guyana for these criminals.
HAPPY THAT NO ONE WAS HURT……THEY WILL BE APPREHENDED SOON
These business owners never learn, another employee from another internet cafe is still in serious condition,do Guyanese citizens read daily papers,? owners of business places are cheap, not wanting to have proper security, time has come for all employees, who r attacked in these businesses, to sue the employers, if they failed to secure the business and protect their employees lives.
This happened three house away from a police station, and when the report was made the replied we don’t have a police officer to come, what ’s wrong with this picture, with all the money that was earmarked for security and all the talks about security how come they don’t have officers to respond to a crime scene, mr. rohee and mr. greene what is going on with your force.
While this is another robbery again, soome business men just don’t learn and think they can get by without any danger.Businesses need to upgrade their methods.I am sure there is more to this story. But at the end of the day it’s getting worse.
A lot of these attacks are inside jobs mmmmmmmmmm!!!
What some blogheads are saying, is that a business place has to be like a jail, selling the customers from behind bars, because of those stinking criminals.
We have young entrepreneurs husttling to make a decent living, to provide goods and services to their country, to build the economy and then we have ……………
low life scums, who prey upon the innocent and hard working, who are so inhumane that we are beyond finding approiate words to describe them and their behaviour.
Stories like these make me very angry that any other person thinks it’s ok to robb, violate or kill another human being.
Do you know that the police station is about 3 buildings away from this Phone Shop?
Is this what it looks like??? 3 doors away from the police station supposed to be a ‘no rob zone’. What happened with the staff for the police station? Only 1 person on duty in a police station at a place like Vreedenhoop?
Waiting to hear from Rohee, Greene and possibly Luncheon/Jagdeo??
