A 64-year-old man is in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after stabbing himself following an altercation with his former reputed wife during which he set his Sophia home afire.

The man of 118, C Field, Sophia was up to last night being treated for his injuries, including stab wounds to his stomach. His former reputed wife, Bernadette Jackson, 54, who ended their relationship some nine months ago and moved out of the home, was also treated at the medical institution last night for a few minor injuries.

Reports are that Jackson had returned to the home to collect her clothes and while there was attacked by the man who reportedly attempted to stab her with a knife. After setting the house afire, he jumped over the fence and then stabbed himself, reports say.

He has lost all reason- when he gets out of hospital, serve his time (arson & intent to cause his wife bodily harm) where will he live now that the house is gone. At 64, he should be looking to make/keep peace with his Maker and enjoy his life – why is he embroiled in such senseless acts of violence.

He needs to be institutionalised but prison may not be the right one for him.

I’ve read about four instances of Domestic Violence as reported in the local dailies, including the one where a woman poured boiling hot oil on her young lover;(reports said that the oil was boiling for three hours), because he beat her earlier in the night. And mind you that’s just in a 24 hour period!

What is going? Are Guyanese now inhaling some crazy potion that’s causing people to go berserk? Then to top it all of the Commissioner of Police got his tenure EXTENDED by three years. Something is really, really, really wrong here. Can someone help me here. Explain this madness that seems to be consuming ALL of us???????????

    • Debbie CANADA says:

malaikao6, unfortunately no one can explain the madness or seem to have solutions or cures for this onslaught of domestic violence that has familes burying members or seeing them incarcerated.

I guess ignorance prevails when it coes to not having total control over your emotions and capabalites.

I am sure the 64 year old will have the rest of his life to regret his rash actions depriving him of his home and health.

More to come in way of these stories……….sadly!
