Opposition leader Robert Corbin was yesterday medivacced to New York where he is now hospitalised, according to his brother.
Charles Corbin told Stabroek News that according to reports he received the leader of the PNCR arrived safely in New York and was being transported to the hospital where he would be seen by his doctors.
Corbin had driven himself to the Woodlands Hospital on Saturday morning after he began experiencing chest pains.
He was transferred to the Caribbean Heart Institute (CHI) early Saturday evening where he was until yesterday when he was air dashed to the US.
On Sunday Charles had said his brother was, “…up and speaking and he is stable” and yesterday he said as far as he knew his brother’s condition remained the same.
Corbin was flown to the US as he is still experiencing some discomfort in the form of pain to the chest. His wife, Carol, accompanied him.
On Sunday Charles had said his brother’s physicians had expressed an interest in seeing him.
It was initially thought that Corbin had suffered a heart attack but tests run by the hospital reportedly proved otherwise.
The PNCR in a brief statement on Saturday said that Corbin was hospitalised after complaining of feeling unwell.
It stated that his condition was being evaluated to determine treatment options.
In Corbin’s absence, the party’s acting Chairpersons Basil Williams and Volda Lawrence would act as joint leaders of the party.
Corbin assumed the leadership of the party his predecessor, former President Desmond Hoyte, died of a heart attack in 2002, receiving unanimous support as leader at a Special Delegates Congress in 2003.

“In Corbin’s absence, the party’s acting Chairpersons Basil Williams and Volda Lawrence would act as joint leaders of the party”…what nonsense is this, why do they need joint leaders….goes to show now naive these people are. If they don’t stop living in the past they will die in the future from their backwardness.
NOW now,SandHurst,it is good to see you back on the site, but give these people a break, what they are doing is something most Guyanese would shy away from,I still think these people are very brave to continue to try to keep a dying organization alive, give them some credit, hope their leader has a speedy recovery!!
Sandman what is wrong with joint leadership? Democracy at work. Better than the other side, where absence of the leader leaves someone in charge who cannot make critical decisions, beyond photo ops. Its like stand up here, watch the store and do nothing else, even if the store is on fire. ISNM
Have some compassion Mr SHF,,, Mr Corbin’s case may be serious, let us all pray for him to recover quickly and then you can deal with the double standards in the PNCR camp…You can see clearly that in the absence of MR Corbin the PNCR is dead…
Yo “SandHurst First” it is good to see that you have returned after being AWOL from SN’s Blogging Community.
I believe that I did mention it before that “politics” does not appear to be your forte; and, as some always say – “quit while you are ahead” before you make yourself a spectacle and persons lose respect for you; and, just so you know the People’s National Congress (PNC) party is not the Guyana Defense Force (GDF)!
Now, “All Your Base Are Belong To US”

Have a nice day.
ohhhhhhhlaud SAND HURST IS BACKKKKKKKKKKK.
I am yet to get past the word ‘medivacced’. You got to be joking SN.
…is Ms Lawrence an attorney ? if not then the reason for Basil as co-leader if she is then her specialty may need support ,,
whatever the reason ,, if the torch should be handed over ,, i think ,,,ok ,,ok ! it’s just my humble opinion…. so here it is ! i feel Basil Williams would be the ideal candidate !….
Sandy Its nice to have you back!!! did notice how EVERIE-BADIE MIS YUH. You guys who are living in guyana should be a better judge of the situation. We out here could say or suggest anything because many were forced to leave (I left through legally married) so I can imegine the ones who left through BACK-TRACK or had to face the real hardship from the 70s, they are still BITTER. Fellow Guyanese stop looking back, we are all getting older and I am sure many of us would like to go home on retirement. So how about working together for our old age,our gran-childere and a safe and peaceful Guyana?
Oh how I long for the day when the differences in medical services between the advanced and poor countries were minuscule and these evacuations were unnecessary. A speedy recovery to the leader of the PNC and maybe a less stressful occupation in the future.
Why you long for that day? You living in C’da
I still care about those in Guyana trapped in the web of incompetence and inefficient government. I noticed you are in the Bahamas. I shall assume you are on vacation and will be returning soon.
this is serious folks…lil chest pains dont take you this far…this man is stressed out…should look out fuh e self now and leave politics alone..pass de torch to de young blood now…
You are correct Evil but not so easy to do. These older heads find it difficult to let go: fear of aging and loss of power whether real or perceived. Hope his doctors talk sense into him and he graciously steps down.
i agree with you, time for him to hang up the gloves and pass de torch.
NENE & AMEN-RA….
Dat does not mean a win for Peee NC yuh know…
Agree wid me on dis too….
Pee NC never won an election in Guyana ever…
me ah wait fuh yuh agreement…ok
eheheheheheheheheh
so dont get meh vex coz right now meh blood pressure is at 123……
Mr. Eyes
Lots at hand for Corbin to consider, hope he figures it out after treatment, not during…
The question is, who will get the torch. I’d like to believe that more than one hand is already reaching for it. For now, he can let Bharat hold it…
Your advice may be very good…. folks; but, how soon you forget that Former U. S. Vice President Cheney served two successive terms although he wears a Pace Maker!
As a former PNC Member I wish RHO the best of health and recovery at the hands of some of God’s creations (doctors, medical technologists, nurses…) in the medical professions.
EVIL, HAVE NO FEAR, THE PPP IS HERE AND WILL BE ALWAYS HERE, HIP, HIP, HIP, HOOOOOOOOOORAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY.
…Yo ! KG ….”scenyah analiss” ,,, don’t u find it redundant to say “doctors ,, medical technologists ,, nurses” in the “medical” professions ?????????????????????????????????
ah meene what other profession would these “life savers” be in if not in the medical field ???????????????????????????????
ah hope “georgie” listening !!!!!!! ???????
EE I’m in total agreement with you on this too.Politics is never easy especially the ones on the loosing end.
Look at how the high and mighty Republican party disgraced itself to a mere 21% as polls show.
Today, a prominent Republican Arlen Specter switched from Republican to Democrat.
The PNCR and Republican parties are much the same where it represents one section of society only.
Mr.Corbin and many others knew they will never win an election with support base voting only.
Regardless of what some say about race base voting to elect PPP/C.
Their math would fail any scrutiny because in order to gain 55% of votes cast has to be more than PPP/C support base voters voting for it.
I wish you a speedy recovery Sir and take it easy and relax and it’s time to move on from politics.
L.Leroy
Now, now, now “michael tannassee”! Why are you getting picky when my so-called “redundancy” is not the subject of this article; and, in any case there can be trained medical doctors involved in “professions” that are/were not their specialization/generalization as as I respond to you two familiar names come to mind – Dr. Roger Luncheon and Dr. Richard Van West-Charles. So, is the Guyana National Insurance Scheme a medical institution; also, is the People’s National Congress (of which “Baby Jesus” is seeking leadership) a medical institution.
Now, circa 1982 – 1983 and we have Dr. Juan Scott (imparting to your truly among a selected few Guyanese). Do ya wanna tell us in what profession Dr. Juan Scott was involved with? Perhaps, just perhaps the “redundancy” was meant to distinguish which industry to doctor, technologists, technicians, nurses…. are currently involved with; and, ya get the “redundancy” drift!
Why the leader of the opposition does not have an assigned driver and bodyguard?
Ask the PNCR General Secretary???
what are you talking about? which opposition leader in the Caribbean has an assigned driver and bodyguard? that is not normal procedure…
“Why the leader of the opposition does not have an assigned driver and bodyguard” ????????????????????????????????
bcos he’s the opposition ???????????????
why should he have a driver? is carbin you talking about john come on now.
The leader of the PNC has a bodyguard and his own driver which are paid by the party!
welcome back sandhurst, we missed u
It is more serious than they are telling us, if it wasn’t a heart why fly him to the u.s, chest pains does not mean it’s a heart attack, but it mean serious health issue, and if not treated would lead to a heart attack, anyway i hope he get well soon, and my advise to him is to destress himself, get active, eat right, watch his blood pressure, and pass the torch to someone else.
MY DEAR READERS I AM WRITING WITH RESPECT ABOUT MR CORBIN NOT WELL AND IS NOW IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA FOR TREATMENT,I WAS VERY SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT HIS ILLNESS, BUT ILL ALSO LIKE TO ASK A QUESTION? WHY AS SOON AS THESE POLITICAL LEADERS GET SICK OR NOT WELL, THE RUN AND COME TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA? WELL IT TELLS ME THAT THERE IS BETTER HEALTH TREATMENT HERE IN THE U.S A, WHICH I DO I KNOW WITH OUT A DOUBT, SO WHY THESE SAME LEADERS CANT FIGHT FOR THE PEOPLE OF GUYANA TO HAVE THE SAME KIND OF PRIVILEGE.
Mr. craps, Good point!
Is Mr. Corbin’s life more valuable than that of any other Guyanese? If the answer is yes then how is value determined? A leaders flesh and soul is more valuable than that of any man, woman or child!!! nonsense.
With respects to Mr Corbin’s illness, the move to go overseas for medical treatment seems hypocritical of what he claims to stand for. The supposed fundamentals of the Opposition is to stand against a Government they’ve always painted as tyrants with special privileges. I guess the government and its members aren’t the only ones who get special treatment after all.
I would like to agree with you up to a point. But please do explain how so many Americans are going to India for heart and other surgery. Dr. Sanjay Gupta from CNN did a a piece where this was elaborated. Am I to think that America is not really the best?
http://in.truveo.com/Ideal-Beach-Resort-Chennai-India-Medical-Tourism/id/2846801860
LFSB DID NOT RUN TO THE USA BUT.
…reasonable logic ! the question is if the Embassy will allow such incidents to become a reality !
ah really doan tink suh ! but nice try…..
Mr.Corbin ,, will be given by-pass surgery to correct his blood flow to the heart ,, and be on his way home in abt 2 weeks ! of course the by-pass will be determined by the % of blockage ! so far seems minimal ,,, this then could lead to him havin “stent/s”
hurry up y’al and get Mr.Corbin well NOW ! and not soon,, cos ah tink “soon” is indefinite !….
MT ! There you go ’sniggerin’ (your word from a previous post)again and, giving prognosis , from a distance , on the gentleman’s condition. Wow !
This is perhaps exactly what is happening around the world “Georgie” – persons like Michael T. saying what they think they know without the benefit of the expert analysis (and, in Mr. Corbin’s case – the necessary EKG Examination, X-Ray, Blood and Stress Tests, Family’s Medical Histories et cetera, et cetera).
Thank the heavenly stars for the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Technologists, Technicians…. or, aircrafts like the one which brought RHO to the USA for urgent medical attention may never make it across the Atlantic Ocean if things were left to mere “talkers”!
… it’s called knowledge PORGIE !,, knowledge meh bai ,, knowledge !
my prognosis[?] is well meaning ! i would not ever be seen in a callous light to make demeaning comments on the health of any human ! but we each have our own perceptions of what is !
if u think my prognosis,, is not on par with Mr.Corbin’s health ,, u should ask SN/moderator?AXER to unplug my post…….
Sorry to hear of Mr. Corbin illness. I would just like to wish the Party Leader a speedy recovery.
