A 41-year-old woman who was struck down by an army vehicle on the McDoom Public Road three weeks ago, died yesterday morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

According to hospital sources, Mahaiswerie Seecharran,  of 14 Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara, died around 3 am yesterday. Stabroek News understands that the woman was on life support since being hospitalized.

According to reports, Seecharran was on her way home from work at Pritipaul Singh Investments when she was struck down by the car, DFB 1482, while crossing the road close to the SOL Service Station at McDoom, on the eastern side of the highway. The car was travelling in a southerly direction at the time of the accident. The victim was rushed to the hospital by the driver of the car and she remained unconscious until her death. She sustained severe head injuries along with cuts and bruises about her body. The car is reportedly owned by a senior officer in the Guyana Defence Force but was being driven by another person at the time of the accident.

When this newspaper visited Seecharran’s  home yesterday, her relatives were preparing for a wake. The woman is survived by her husband along with six children.

Seecharran is expected to be buried later in the week.

    My God!!!
My sympathies to the relatives and friends of the bereaved.
Lets watch out and see what they will do to the army rank who caused the demise of this woman. In my view he should be charged for dangerous driving and then they will kick him out the army and have him face the courts by himself.

Is’nt a car owned by a senior army officer different to an army vehicle?. What misinformation?.

    • Sanderson Rowe BARBADOS says:

We refer to children of soldiers as “army brats”,so to many,it also follows that other things owned by soldiers fall under the “army’ umbrella. And this was also true to some extent when I was part of the Rhine Army.

    • yasuman71 UNITED STATES says:

The car’s number plate begins with DFB, perhaps indicating it’s a military vehicle. But I must confess I’m guessing an answer here.

    • John Smith GUYANA says:

DFB means it is the property of the army.

ON mash day thousands of people was on the road ,injoying the mash ,i was standing infront the HEAD OFFICE OF THE WATER PLACE, AN THIS GUY WAS DRIVING IS WHITE MARK 2,WHEN PEOPLE WAS WALKING AN THIS MAN WHO HE MISS HIT DOWN TELL HIM WHY HE IN SUCH AN HURRY ,THE DRIVER OF THE CAR JUMP OUT IS CAR AN TELL THE MAN THAT I AM A POLICE OFFICER AN WHY U RUNNING UP YOUR MOUTH .SO I WONDER WHY IS HE AS TO JUMP OUT IS CAR AFTER HE IS MAN KNOW THE LAW,SO I NOW SEE WHY PEOPLE HAVE TO TAKE THE OTHER SIDE OF THE LAW.ATVANTAGE.WAS TAKEN ON THEM BY THE LAW.

  4. The car is NOT owned by a senior officer. The car is being used by a senior officer in the Guyana Defence Force but was being driven by another person at the time of the accident.
let me explain, the car license plate is DFB 1482, that means it is owned by the GDF and is assigned to an officer. all military vehicles when assigned to an officer comes with a driver. that driver is the for that officer and takes him where he needs to go. u will not c an officer driving a military vehicle.

    • malaika06 BAHAMAS says:

Drakes you still don’t make any sense based on SN reports.

      These are the “facts” presented to us this far;

      1. The vehicle is OWNED by a senior GDF member – SN

      2. The vehicle was NOT driven by the OWNER at the time of the accident – SN

      3. The vehicle carries a GDF license plate – SN

What SN reports do not provide details on is whether the individual who was driving at the time of the accident is an NCO rank or an officer. Big difference, right?

    • OBSERVER UNITED STATES says:

LD you are right, no military vehicle-prefixed DFB-is owned by any member of the Guyana Defence Force more than an ambulance is owned by a doctor or nurse. It is the property of the state.

  5. Arnold VENEZUELA says:

So sad she suffered a very long time.
May her soul Rest in Peace.

  6. ghetto youth GUYANA says:

My sincere condolances to the bereved relatives.
Ths driver should be charged for causing death by dangerous driving. The car is not the property of the GDF but owned by a senior offical of the GDF.
I hope third part insurance was covering the car so that the family can be compensated.
Come on GDF Official,do the right thing and let the driver face the law.

  7. Sanderson Rowe BARBADOS says:

My condolence to the family and friends of this unfortunate lady.
Isn’t it amazing that we seem to be more interested in who owns the vehicle, and what SN has reported, rather than sharing the grief of the family left to mourn.

    • BROWN SKIN GUYANA says:

Sanderson Rowe, the point is not that people are more concerned about who owns the vehicle.I am concerned about how the headline seems to mislead me.School children do read the papers and should get proper guidance in editing.I am sorry for this woman and her loved ones too.

  8. andreau UNITED STATES says:

That was really tragic. May her soul rest in peace, and hope her family is compensated and paid for damages.

  9. caesar agustus UNITED STATES says:

Life in Guyana is already hard. The family has now lost a mother and breadwinner.Into the hands of that great MAN.Lord will you please help my eyes to see.I hope the army foots the bill for the funeral, and there is some providance to pay compensation to the family.
