After a series of tests on Opposition Leader Robert Corbin, his doctors have now determined what his ailment is and they have made a decision on what needs to be done, according to General Secretary of the PNCR Oscar Clarke.

While Clarke did not disclose what Corbin’s ailment is he said that the doctors will be doing what needs to be done today while adding that the opposition leader is not in a serious condition.

He said that Corbin was discharged from the cardiac hospital he was admitted to in New York but he was later admitted to another facility where a number of tests were done by doctors.

“The doctors have decided what they are going to do, they know what needs to be done,” Clarke told Stabroek News.

“I would think that whatever they are doing is not serious,” he commented.

And Corbin’s brother, Charles, told this newspaper when contacted that his brother is out of “crisis management” and that the doctors are continuing to “home in on what is the problem.”

“They have a fair idea as to what the problem is,” he said. He said he is expected to have a full report on his brother’s condition sometime today.

Corbin had driven himself to the Woodlands Hospital two Saturdays ago after he began experiencing chest pains.

He was transferred to the Caribbean Heart Institute (CHI) the same Saturday evening where he remained until he was air-dashed to the US. His wife, Carol, accompanied him.

It was initially thought that Corbin had suffered a heart attack but tests run by the hospital reportedly proved otherwise.

The PNCR in a brief statement on the day of the incident said that Corbin was hospitalised after complaining of feeling unwell.

Meanwhile, Clarke said that Corbin’s absence is not affecting the functioning of the party as its work goes on.

He said while there are things Corbin as leader would have done if he was there, the party is still functioning.

“Of course he would have had a role to play as leader of the party but we are getting on with much of the party work,” he said.

He confirmed that in Corbin’s absence, the party’s acting Chairpersons Basil Williams and Volda Lawrence would act as joint leaders.

I think its a political thing. Corbie don’t want his rivals to know his weakness, them might use it against him. ie. if its high blood pressure, President Bharat and company might do MORE things to stress him out and further raise eh heart rate…hehehe…..If its high blood sugar, dem might tell persons serving coffee at parliament building to sweeten Corbie’s brew with 1/2 lb sugar…heheheeee

    • question, how many guyanese know the symptons of an heart attack, how many knows the signs of diabetes, or prostate cancer. Many guyanese at home dies from ignorance not knowing the symptons of a serious illness, so in this vein i wish these people share with the public what the diagnoses are, which will leads to an educated population, forget about what jagdeo and his cohort may think it’s about saving a life.

I may be wrong but I don’t think that our tax dollars are paying for this.
Mr. Corbin should be contributing to and as such is entitled to benefits from the NIS. I think that is where the primary benefits would come from. The rest of it should come from his pockets!
