Commerce minister Manniram Prashad said he plans to meet local airline providers soon to discuss misleading advertisements which state fares without taxes, and other matters. According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release Prashad said he is displeased at recent reports from the travelling public about the poor service provided by some airline carriers.

The minister also advised airlines to publish both the fares and taxes in their advertisements as to do less amounts to dishonest practice.

Additionally, Prashad said he was concerned about the high cost of tickets even during the non-peak season and even as the price of jet fuel has gone down. The minister said he will address these issues with local carriers in order to curb unpleasant experiences for citizens and tourists travelling to and from Guyana.

Who in their right mind expects to pay for airfare and not pay taxes… come on people get real

      1P1N1D ….Oh…!
      You missed the point!
It is not ‘want not to pay applicable taxes’, but to be honest to the public in quoting the correct fares.

You ever looked at NA practises of quoting, say, air fare
$100, then in minute letters that you have to get a magnifying glass to read, there appears ‘plus applicable
taxes, and surcharges of $300. This is a one way fare”

Dishonest to the extreme and THAT Guyana should not
      follow.

Way to go Mr Minister !

      Straighten out these people NOW.
