Guyanese are not only stereotyped because of their appearance but because of the reputation that comes along with it. All honest Guyanese and Bajans know what i mean. So if Barbadians are weary of Guyanese its because of the perception that guyanese will stop at nothing to get whatever they want. They are plenty of St Lucians, Vincentians, Trini’s, Jamaicans here but they dont have the same reputation. If there is anyone to blame for the reputation they have its the Guyanese themselves. And i can give plenty examples if necessary.

This is a very interesting situation, and as a non-Guyanese in my humble opinion I think this entire crisis only creates more embarassment for Guyana! A country so rich in resources, yet its people are so divided and have to run for their lives. How sad and depressing this must be.

On the other hand, the small Islands of the caribbean cannot sustain the influx of Guyanese nationals, this is a false premise. Those nations have to secure their own economies and look out for the welfare of their own native citizens first. Whether Guyanese nationals are hard working or not, matters not.

There are no easy solutions to fix all the problems that currently exist in Guyana in a short space of time, but Guyanese should first look to make changes from within instead of complaining and doing nothing, and running away to distant shores for a solution. The only result will be developing & building other nations, while leaving yours lagging behind………..remember, a chain is only as strong as its weakest link!

Many countries in a similar situation have turned around their economies and are now economic power-houses. It takes political will and a very strong leader to achieve success.

Debbie you have a lot to learn. Guyanese come to Barbados and other Caricom islands to earn a living, to enjoy the necessities in life that are not possible for many in their homeland. Term life Careers, Professional Advancement ,Arts and Craft, Vocation are surplus to requirement for many a Guyanese starting to make a better life in another land. Those phrases you used also tells me that you are an educated snob, who look down on those less fortunate to have had a University Education or a godfather.
My brother once called a clerk at the Department of Labour (DOLE) Sir,and was reprimanded by the same clerk,who said,”Do not call me Sir, there is a very thin line between the employed and the unemployed.For now, I am just fortunate to be on this side.”

as i see it, in the first place guyanese entered barbados illegally, at some point you will be asked to verify your status, its the laws of most countries( guyana being laxed when it comes to immigration status concerning foreigners)you have to straighten yourself out whilst you’r there if not get the hell out of the people’s country.

More should have been done to treat Guyanese with respect.

At the airport they are being treated as way side people, but we are human beings.

Guyana Government should stop all those Jamaicans, Barbadian and what other countries coming to take up lands in Guyana.

Imagine getting permission to set up a crematorium, without no hassle.

Hope the government taking notes of all the activities taking place.

The Director of Public Prosecution , Mr.Charles Leacock , is a guyanese ; Dame Olga Lope-Seales is a guyanese who has received 2 Barbados national honours . Rihanna’s parents , father bajan and mother guyanese . Many bajan men are married to guyanese women and in my district many guyanese are living harmoniously with bajans . Guyanese and bajans are working and living together in Barbados .

Jay, even though my papers are in order, it doesn’t mean that I am not concerned or feel the pain of my other Guyanese brothers and sisters whom are undocumented. We are all here with a similar cause. I am not better than anyone else who is undocumented. You may be one that likes to look down at others who were not as fortunate as you are, but I am not like that. We are all ONE!

Sanderson, my ‘unsubstantiated’ report refers to the brother of one of my work mate. I would not write what I believe to be farfetched. In the mean time, since you appear to be an ambassador for BIM, why don’t you tell us what measures are in place to ensure that the process would be conducted fairly, giving everyone an equal opportunity and that this is not just a scam for people to turn themselves in?

mary jane , please do not blame the government of Barbados for giving an amnesty to illegal Caribbean immigrants . Bajans are being kind to all of it’s Caribbean neighbours but if we ignore the laws of Barbados , anarchy will take over . Every government have a duty to provide for it’s citizens . Tell Mr. Gonsalves to help stop the illegal drugs from leaving St. Vincent destined for Barbados . Our Police and Coast Guard are kept very busy protecting the coast of Barbados .

DJ, either you’re ignorant about the process of legal migration or you are being pretensive. Not everyone who resides overseas came here illegally. The correct procedure is to apply for residency based on the guidlines set forth by the country of your intended residency and upon approval proceed to migrate. One does not go there as a visitor with full intention to stay permanently. That is called illegal immigration and I am quite sure you comprehend the difference despite your pretentious naivity.

Wiggins, I know the consul well and saw his full press relesae published in the Chronicle last Sunday. It clearly led off, and emphasised, that some Guyanese were worried. It further stressed that Bajans and Guyanese continue to have warm and friendly relations. The dimension about being stereotyped as headlined by Stabroek News was done in a sensationalist way to give a false impression about “conflict”, “controversial” “Race tension”,etc. Unfortunately, that’s what sells papers and attracts a certain type of blogger. Wouldn’t it have been better to have a headline: “Bajans still welcome Guyanese” ?
You got to know this type of business, especially SN with editors with feet on desk looking out window on Robb street for somebody who fall off a bicycle… Peace.

Until the PPP is held accountable for the continuation of it’s Apan Jhat politics, Guyanese will continue to seek greener pastures in the Islands. What we Indians do not realize is that Apan Jhat politics hurts us too and not only the blacks that it is designed to negatively impact. Look at the stream of Indians who are seeking refugee status either in Canada or the Carribean under the PPP rule.

The PPP has failed the NAtion after being in power for over 17 years. They however feel no need to change since the Indian population through blind loyalty will always vote them back into power.

I rest my case and Imust thank you badlall for droping it….some Indo and note I said some, only become Guyanese after hardship hit home just like some living in London and the US and when all is well they gone back into their fold.

Barbados is slowly getting to understand the Guyana situation and more Caribbean leaders should do same to distroy the the race problem in Guyana. If we as Guyanese can’t do it somebody else have to do it.

Its time the PPP see Guyanese as Guyanes and not as Indo or Afro…..Thompson, put pressure on Guyana. What you are doing can cause this Government tochange course and respect all Guyanese as Guyanese. Mr. Thompson thank you for keeping you for upholding your campaign promiss.

My father was responsible for my coming, my aunt who came her in the early sixties send for my mother and father. Nobody live in Guyana for me, the whole family came away just before Fatbay start to revup…..ok is that a good answer.

No I ask Thompson to carry the lash on them because they vote PPP and then run and left Guyana, and return again to vote PPP and expect Thompson to shelter them. They didnot understand that the PPP is only for aselected few and Roger Khan.
