Welder killed in Annandale bus smash-up 62-year-old man died after the bus that he was in collided with a truck on the Annandale Public Road, East Coast Demerara last night.
Praimchand Chature, a welder of 76 Breda Street, Werk-en-Rust was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital. He had suffered severe head injuries. The driver of the mini-bus, Richard Cockfield, 65, was taken to the x-ray department to have an x-ray done but appeared to have suffered no serious injuries. Two other persons, Sophia Benn, 29, and Brittany Narine, 7, were also taken to the hospital for treatment.
A close relative said that Chature had left his home at around midday to visit a friend in Sophia yesterday. He said that Chature normally rode a motorcycle but left it at the friend and had gone up to Enmore to see a mechanic in the minibus. They were returning when the accident occurred shortly after 7 pm. The bus collided with the truck and was badly damaged to the front.
Chature was reportedly in the front seat of the vehicle. There were reports that the truck was parked on the road. No-one from the truck turned up at the hospital.
At the medical institution last night, several of the man’s relatives turned up and were in tears upon learning of his demise.
Chature was a foreman at Guyana Sawmills and a father of four, another relative said. He leaves to mourn his wife and other relatives.

The driver most times have little or no injuries. My condolence to the loved ones.
THEY ALWAYS TRY TO SAVE THEMSELVES THE SAFEST PLACE TO SIT IS BEHIND THE DRIVER SAD RIP SIR
SN do a follow up and let us know if an alcohol test is done on everyone, a study should be carried out with all these accident and verify the driver blood alcohol content.
Maybe when a politician or an official’s vehicle rams into one of these badly parked, oversize loads then they’ll make it illegal for them to park on roadways.
oh scores, you bright, yo bright bad man…..
SH,
Tanks man! I gon soon put up a passport foto like yours to make it look like I got a high paying job and know what I’m talkin about.
That might be the only way. And when it happens let’s hope it’s a real high level official that way me might get action quicker..

my condolence to his family
Indiscipline, lack of civility and no respect for our laws and each other is the engine driving us to certain destruction. We shall be reading many more of these reports because no morality or standards exist. It’s laissez- faire. After every accident drivers should be checked for recent consumption of alcohol.
Yes Mr Christopher Colombus, they are checked, because the have the equipment now…
Having the equipment does not mean they are checked after EVERY accident Soldier. The operative word is “EVERY”. Please read carefully before making unbecoming comments.
The bus drivers they dont care how they drive and thats the bottom line.
My sympathy goes out to the family. I will also like to urge all drivers to be very cautious on the road ways to avoide accidents.
Accidents can take our lives so sudden causing our love ones so much pain and grief.
Driver must be care how they drive cuz too much lives is takin by buses
My grand father is gone and many tired drop is dropin because he is one the the greatest man that every body know an love may the lord be with u all the way love u
… seems that the driver had on a functioning seat belt … in some of those ecd buses the front passenger seat belt is attached with a mere HOOK and there is no decelerating mechanism in case of a sudden stop …
