A 16-year-old boy was yesterday placed on bail in the sum of $75,000 by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer the charge of felonious wounding.

It is alleged that on April 7 at Georgetown, the 16-year-old with intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm, unlawfully wounded Devon Chase. The teen pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by the Acting Chief Magistrate.

The defendant told the court that he had gotten into an argument with the virtual complainant (VC) over a cell phone. He added that the argument caused a physical confrontation when the VC dealt him a blow to his head.
The VC said, however, that it was the defendant who fired the first lash and he responded in a bid to defend himself.

The matter was called to the bench and a lengthy discussion ensued.
The teen was subsequently granted $75,000 bail and has to return to court on June 29.
