What a day for the world and for the Black race, he was indeed a passionate professor in his field and I hope that his work will continue to inspire our people of generations to come. He was trully a scholar and may he rest in peace. The master has called him home. Ivan van Sertima R.I.P. brother.

I agree 100% also..I am Trinidadian living in the United States for 30 yrs..Also attended NY city college. I was introduced to Dr Van Sertima at the early age of 10 by my father who belived that his children were not going to be miseducated and mis lead by false documentation of our black history..I grew up listening to cassett tapes of the Dr’s lectures. I now pass on those teachings to my own children.. I must say that I am surprised when I ask many Guyanese people about Dr. Van Sertima they have no idea who he is..It’s a shame..that a man that contributed so much and worked so hard to reveal the truth about our true history is seldom regognized in his own birth place..Then the news paper does not take the time to give him a tribute he so well deserves..What a shame for Guyana

HAve Dr Van Sertima every came back home to lecture, if not why now that he is gone I believe then its our duty to elevate him and let the younger Guyanese know about him via all his books and you tube.

That may not be as quite as easy as you put it “LoveGT 4 Real” as such “molds” (metallurgical speaking) in which De. Ivan Van Sertima was casted sometimes only comes in “single” copies and they are very hard to be duplicated.

I thank you Mr. Van Sertima for the education you gave me about my African ancestors. I first watched your videos about Africa and the ancient Egyptians at the age of 20, u gave the world the news that African people had a time of glory which was far different from the teachings our oppressors give my people today through the use of miseducation. Your work wasn’t widely accepted by the European scholars but i want u to know that you’ve been heard and u influenced my life greatly and there are others just like me that are proud of bring who we are. rise again

In as much as it appears that you could not have resisted to put your “spin” on the works of this late distinguished son of Guyana then any student of religion would not be so easily fall for your “as van Daniken , would argue in his false money making nonsense, by people from outer space. Let us not carried away here with accolades for the late…”

Look no further than the “Great Pyramids of Egypt” (the Bible….); and, the “metals age” which was mentioned (I believe) in Dr. Ivan Van Sertima’s book (They Came Before Columbus) to be informed about “facts” (and not about “van Daniken’s” arguments) about the early intelligence of the African.

However, it is believed that this is not the occasion to take you up on certain issues.

My condolences to the Van Sertima famly. I knew Dr. Van Sertima only by name and a few of his achievements. I am very disappointed that the Guyana papers cannot SHARE more information about the life of this brillant son of our soil.
Guess if I need to know more I have to GOOGLE.

An excellent writer and lecturer. He will be missed, but his work will live on. Had a chance to hang out with him after a NSBE Alumni Chapter Presentation in Chicago in the mid-90’s. He was kinda disappointed in our progress, yet optimistic that we would do better as a people but he knew we had to have more knowledge of our history. His writings and lectures showed that he was a revolutionary.

Ivan Van Sertima first touched my life when we were both students of St James The Less – now F.E. Pollard Primary School – David Street Kitty. Brilliant since then. Renowned abroad. Deeply touched by his passing. He will be remembered as one of Guyana’s greatest sons. I salute his memory.
