"He added to the sum of human joy; and were everyone to whom he did some loving service to bring a blossomto his grave, he would sleep tonight beneath a wilderness of flowers."
-Robert G. Ingersoll

Caribbean linguists, other scholars and all others who have used Profesor Allsop's Dictionary of Caribbean English Usage will always have him with us. He will live on through his works. Those of us who teach will ensure that future Caribbean generations will never forget him.

Rest in Peace, Dr. Allsopp.

Last week it wash Professor Van Sertima. This week it is Professor Allsopp two distinguished sons of Guyana.
If we born we must die but do we have to die outside the land of our birth?.
Dr Allsopp was a patriot. He was a founder member of the Guyanes Association Of Barbados and was always interested in the welfare of his people here. Very few people knew that he spoke Hindi and used the common words used in Guyana in his lexicon. He also had great knowledge of the major religions of the world
Good bye my friend I will miss our telephone conversations about our country and events

Another achiever has gone home to rest after stalwart service. The likes of these intellects (Van Sertima, Allsopp) are difficult to replace and refutes the lie in certain circles that the descendants of Africans in the new world are waiting on handouts. The road ahead of us may appear narrow and steep but pales in comparison to what our ancestors overcame. Let's strive to reach the destination, instead of thinking of the complexity of the journey. "Rise you mighty people from your sleep and slumber. Take the knots out of your head instead of your hair." Rest In Peace Dr. Allsopp.
