Rehabilitation works have started at the Palms Geriatric Institution.
According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release workers are currently erecting two new reservoirs to boost water supply and they will soon build a recreation facility which is expected to boast a TV room, a games room, a gym and a canteen. Also, Block Three will be painted and the windows repaired soon.

GINA said too a contract for the construction of a sterilization unit has already been awarded and works will soon start. This unit is intended to treat and dress the wounds of diabetic patients on site instead of transferring them to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

The Palms currently houses 208 residents who are over the age of 65. It is fully funded by government and is operated by the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.

A full-time welfare officer addresses residents’ problems and liaises with their relatives. The 24-hour care service is manned by a team headed by an administrator.

  1. BORAPORK CANADA says:

I remember as a child visiting this institution to share the good fortune of being successful at a recent examination. My mother believed that if good came your way, you shared it with the less fortunate. I wonder what happened to that type of charity in Guyana.

  2. InI have a vision to give back to this institution. My grandmother was a Seven Day Adventist and I spent many Sabbaths with her at this home bringing love to Guyana’s finest ancestors.
InI asking the ancestors to have me donate my time to this institution in whatever capacity I can.

Can we do some good and have the address and contacts for this ancestral home published. At least then online ones can send donations etc.

Thanks Italbora for volunteering for this task.

Waiting the info on this blog.
