-vehicle riddled with bullets
A man died yesterday on the UNAMCO trail when the vehicle in which he was travelling came under a hail of gunfire from gunmen.
The dead man was identified as Thakur Persaud of Old Road, Sara Johanna, East Bank Demerara. Persaud was in vehicle BKK 8654, along with his two employees Ravi Deobarran and Solomon Low-A-Chee. The trio was said to be heading to a mining operation some 50 to 60 miles up the Berbice River from Kwakwani which lies just below the Itabu Falls when they noticed a fallen tree in their path.
The men had reportedly stopped and disembarked the vehicle in order to remove the tree when they suddenly came under heavy gunfire from an unknown number of gunmen.
Stabroek News understands that after hearing the shots the two men ran in different directions into the forest in a bid to escape. After staying in hiding for some two to three hours, the men returned to their vehicle which had been ransacked. It was then they realised the lifeless bullet-riddled body of their boss, Persaud, was lying on the ground outside of the vehicle. It was unclear if he was shot on leaving the vehicle.
One of the two survivors related that the key was still in the ignition. They then left Persaud on the trail as they were unsure of what to do, turned the vehicle around and headed back to the Kwakwani Police Station to make a report about the attack.
Residents at the Kwakwani crossing told this newspaper that the vehicle had in excess of 18 bullet holes which appeared to have been made by high-powered weapons.
One resident of Kwakwani said that he was on his way out of the UNAMCO trail when he noticed the vehicle going at what he described as “top speed, as if they were crazy.” It was not until he had gotten to the crossing that he was made aware by other residents of what had transpired. Other persons confirmed that the vehicle was taken to the Kwakwani Police Station.
Though the vehicle had been ransacked, it is unclear what was taken.
Stanley Low-A-Chee, father of Solomon Low-A-Chee, last night said he was told of the death of Persaud by his son. The older Low-A-Chee said that he had no details surrounding the incident except for the fact that his son along with Persaud and Deobarran had come under a hail of heavy gunfire. Low-A-Chee said that members of the family had travelled to Kwakwani to assist with investigations.
This area came into prominence last year during the hunt for the gang headed by Rondell `Fineman’ Rollins. There were several deadly clashes between the police and a gang of gunmen at Christmas Falls and areas along the road. Matters escalated further when the bodies of eight miners were found at Lindo Creek.
Up to press time there had been no word from the police on the attack on trail yesterday. (Additional reporting by Femi Harris)

The wild wild west. There is more to this story than meets the eye.
and what might that have been,”BORAPORK”? Any suggestions?
and what is that may i ask?
Anarchy is slowly but surely taking over Guyana because good governance , law and order are elusive dreams , to be pursued but never attained in the Republic of Jagdeo and the inept PPP government . Guyana is now a comfort zone for criminals of all types – is crime Guyana’s major contribution to the CSME ?? Is crime the reason why so many Guyaneses’ are fleeing their homeland ?? Borapork , is this the reason why you fled and is now living in Canada ?? What would Guyana be like in the next ten years , Borapork ?? please oblige me with some answers , Borapork .
This is a relatively remote area, and anything could happen along these trails.
The tree across the road suggest that it may have been a random attack, but only proprt police investigation would be able to shed light here.
My condolences to the Persaud family.
Another gang is on the rise, was this a set up or someone that know they were coming, some investigating needs to be done.
Very interesting!!! The two employees ran in different directions and both appeared to return to the vehicle after 2 – 3 hours. This sounds like a co-ordination. Why is it that at least one did not get disoriented?
Talk about apparent connection to Lindo Creek incident. It’s all coming to light now, dudes. Or some wise guy will estab a link to the JS? Wouldn’t be surprised!!!
interesting..i say no more….who know de name will know wa i mean……
Right.
u sure got that right what do these people that there dirty business will go on forever.
when you play wid fiah you gonna get bun.
Yep, seems like the area possesses its own phantom squad.
I find it interesting that these guys left their boss on the trail. What if he were in shock following the shooting, and perhaps had a chance of survival?
I shall try not to let my suspicions of foul play enter into this one. Common humanity would have dictated picking up that body and speeding off, not leaving it and dashing.
Charge those men, it’s foul play. Police should do a through investigation, start with the fallen tree.
Actually they were supposed to leave the entire crime scene untouched including the vehicle until police arrival. They must have had cell phones (don’t everybody in Guyana have one?) to contact police. Or else, hoof it.
well said
What if the body could not have been found when they returned. I am not sure what to think here, something seem out of sorts.
My condolences to the family
Apparantly Fineman is back?….this is serious people because supposedly all of the gunmen were suppose to be dead but it seems like the Real Lindo Killers might still be hiding out in this area. Question…. are the Brazilian miners who were working in this area at the time of the Lindo Creek Massacre, are they still working in this area? hmmm. Miners this area is not safe, avoid it
He jumbie bad man…
Hey Pepie, sounds like you buy the police version that they didn’t do it.
This is really interesting….UNAMCO has been synonymous with the name Lindo Creek…hmmm.. this mystery deepens
strange but don’t forget there are a lot of AK47 still unaccounted for. more free-dumb fighters out there.
MODERATOR WHY YOU REMOVE THE HEAD LINES FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE> TOO MUCH CLICKING TO FIND THE HEAD LINES.
How come you aint call on jagdeo to launch an investigation so we can hear more about these so called freedumb fighters freespeech? or is this more hearsay and nonsense from freedumb house?
Lets get an investigation of David clarke going asap man.
Somebody wants the something all to themselves!!!
Several angles need investigation here. Why hasn’t the police and army descended on the area to investigate? They were very involved when Fineman was supposedly rampaging through the forest but are now being held in reserve? Doesn’t the dead man and his family deserve the services of Guyana’s finest?
On the other hand, the survivors need to be investigated also!
Check the report:
1. The two survivors escaped injury entirely.
2. The vehicle was ransacked but they could not say what was taken.
3. The two unharmed men managed to coordinate their emergence from the forest at the same time after running in two separate directions
4. They somehow both knew the coast was clear. How far did they run from the scene?
5. They didn’t attempt to revive the third man.
6. They didn’t attempt to transport the third man to a medical facility.
Which way will the police go? I could tell you with certainty this time that it’s not Fineman!
good points mty friend…but u forgot 1 thats very telling….if the tree was across the road…that means the ambush was setted up on either side of the road…..yet they ran in seperate directions into the jungle….which means either one of them was running towards the gunmen….thus them coming into contact with the person/s responsible….now unless they related to usain bolt….its impossible for that sparatic gunfire to have taken place and only 1 person was killed ( riddled with bullets) something isnt adding up here
excellent points. might be a set up here. know your friends well before you trust them
Guyana police is not smart enought to think like that.
well well well, fineman aint around anymore… who gone get the blame now! my condolences to the family.
