A post-mortem examination conducted yesterday on the body of 29-year-old Arifa Muntazali which was found in a trench at Chesney Backdam proved to be inconclusive due to the advanced state of decomposition and her lover is expected to be charged.

Muntazali who lived with her husband, Farook Muntazali at Queenstown, Corriverton was laid to rest yesterday at her mother’s home at Number 64 Village, Corentyne.

The man with whom she shared an extramarital relationship has admitted to killing her and will be charged shortly, police sources say. The man who had at first denied knowing her whereabouts told police at first that the woman had hanged herself.

He later took investigators to where the body was and at that stage he confessed that he had killed her. Her body was found in a trench with her hands tied behind her back.

He was wanted following reports that she was “kidnapped” and had been arrested on June 21. Muntazali who would have celebrated her 30th birthday on Monday left her marital home on May 22.

Her husband had told this newspaper that the woman did not inform him she was leaving home. When he called her the same day she told him she had gone to a friend’s religious function and would be home later.

The following day he called again and she said she was coming the next day “for sure, no matter how late.” She never showed up but early the next morning she called and related that she wanted to return home but that someone had “kidnapped” her.

He said the woman sounded like she was being held against her will and when he tried to question her further the call was disconnected.

The matter was reported to the police on May 30 and according to a press release the man was arrested on June 21 at Parika, East Bank Essequibo.

SHE WENT AWAY WITH THE SWEET MAN & NOW WHEN SHE WANTED TO LEAVE THE SWEET MAN HE DIDNT WANT HER TO LEAVE SO HE KILED HER. SHE TRIED TO HAVE AN EXTRAMARTIAL RELATIONSHIP AS THOUGH HER HUSBAND WASNT GOOD ENOUGH FOR HER THEN SHE SHOULD HAVE LEAVE HER HUSBAND… U CANT WANT SUCK CANE & BLOW WHISTLE AT THE SAME TIME SIS… NO NO.. NEVERTHELESS, HE COMMITTED A MURDER & SHOULD BE PUNISHED FOR THAT.. “She tried to have an extramarital relationship.” Is this what you learnt from the report? Hmm. The young man was having a whale of a time, I suppose. This he did not want to lose. She on the other hand distanced herself from her husband according to the reports. The relationship was already broken but the marriage was still in force. That is a recipe for trouble. Sadly, she met her death. Poor decisions we made in the process.

You are very lucky to have a good married life,If you are!!! If you didn’t and had no way out, and cheating was some way of your happiness, you would have some SYMPATHY,

    • DebES SURINAME says:

He was wrong to kill her but you can’t say she didn’t go looking for trouble. If you are not happy with your mrriage leave, don’t cheat.

    • Marlon Rajijah UNITED STATES says:

I’d love to call you a name but it would not be permitted. You comment reflects your naievte and maybe also your stupidity. I guess you are among those who would like a spouse to remain in a relationship no matter how unsatisfactory it is. You’ll shout he/she can leave but have you examined the laws of Guyana with respect to marriage/divorce? Have you any idea of the social and economic situations of a divorcee? Nothing was said about the husband. However, did you assume it was all bed of roses for her? You know there are many men/husbands who work hard but forget their responsibilities at home. Many assume the woman/wife does not have needs but are there for fulfill their’s.
