Henry maybe you can tell us why 85% of university graduates are fleeing the country to better pastures, more freedom and prosperity.....why dont you tell us that and explain that rather than talking balderdash about who prefers to be under harper and obama?

I will tell you what it seems the majority of Guyanese would prefer to be under harper and obama than your ppp.

How come only the PPP elite deserves perks?

You dont think the people of this country have suffered enough? shouldn't we make them a priority for a change vs. the politicians?

Ex GDF officer your statement should read:- When Men and Wombman begin to RASPECT each other GLOBALLY, we will then have the moral authority to demand that others do the same, Mr. pRESIDENT.

This is a global problem. The cops and soldiers in JA shoot down many Jamaican citizens on a DAILY BASIS LIKE DOGS.
As Jamaica, so will Guyana and ALL Caricom states remain violent until a ras-o=lut-ion bubbles OVA.
Guyana has the resources and need to do a MASSIVE CLAMPDOWN IN RETURN. This will rid Guyana of many vagrants. Stay safe for bears are watching.

I agree Guyanese should shape with some self respect when abroad. We are a proud people and should hold up our heads where ever we go.Obey the laws of the country they are in and remember that each of us is an ambassador of our country and people will look at our general behaviour as representatives of our country.

As for the Bajans and Trinidadians,we should forgive them they don't know any better.

Sodium if the AFC was a surrogate for the PHENC why is your government working so hard to exclude them from GECOM?

Why is the PPP and the PHENC ignoring the courts ruling and splitting up monies amongst themselves excluding the AFC even though the court ruled that the monies should be divided between all parties?

How come the AFC is challenging the PHENC on the 30 Million dollar bill jagdeo paid to haul out corbin gall blader flying him on a private plane to NY?

THE PPP AND THE PNC ARE ONE AND THE SAME DO NOT TRY TO SKEW THE FACTS MY GOOD MAN.

FAILURE TO ADDRESS REAL ISSUES! FAILURE TO RECOGNIZE THAT HE IS A FAILURE! Mr Jagdeo needs to remember that charity begins at home. For many years he has shown UTTER disrespect to the Guyanese populace, even those who helped to keep him there. The writing's on the wall and Guyanese need to awaken from their slumber. WHEN WE STOP BEING BLACK MAN AND COOLIE MAN the world will begin to respect us, because by then we will be moving to the top to as GUYANESE!

Here's the Prime Minister's tally from www.barbadosadvocate.com - I'm a little confused as a Bajan as to whether 8 people were deported with 4 being Guyanese or 47 people deported with 34 being Guyanese, maybe someone can figure that out. I think the article is badly written, maybe they meant to say 47 people were illegal but 8 were found to be deportable based on the facts they received and the others, though illegal, were released, I'm sure he'll clear it up when he has his press conference in Guyana next week.

No crackdown on Guyanese

6/28/2009

By Shawn Cumberbatch

THERE has been no Immigration crackdown against Guyanese and other non-nationals in Barbados and Prime Minister David Thompson has the proof.

Eight non-nationals, including four Guyanese, have been deported from Barbados this month, but 177, including 71 from Guyana have had their stays extended, Thompson revealed yesterday.

Additionally, Thompson, saying this was a result of Immigration and police officials acting “in the normal course of their duties” and not within the parametres of the island’s six-month amnesty offer to illegal CARICOM nationals in Barbados, also disclosed that nearly 300 Guyanese were expected to get work permits renewed.

The Prime Minister shared this information while delivering a brief, but major defence of Barbados’ immigration policies at the Grace Adams Suite, Grantley Adams International Airport.

Since the new amnesty took effect on June 1 Barbados has faced major criticism from Guyana, other countries in the Caribbean and also domestically.

However, Thompson said there was no evidence to suggest a hardening of attitude or abrasive action against non-nationals by Immigration and the Royal Barbados Police Force.

The Prime Minister, quoting data compiled by the two departments between June 1 and yesterday, said: “Visits were made to 15 residences on the 9th, the 11th and the 13th of June between 3:30 and 6:30 in the morning. These visits led to the detention and removal of 47 non-nationals, 34 of whom were Guyanese nationals who were in this country illegally. Eight persons were deported, four of whom were Guyanese. The latter were deported for the following reasons, theft, over-staying and possession of a false work permit stamp, over-staying and destitute and deception.”
One hundred and seventy-seven persons had their stay extended, 71 of whom were Guyanese, 380 applications for renewal of short term work permits were received, 294 of which were on behalf of Guyanese nationals. I have no reason to believe that the majority of these applications will not be approved. The above suggests in my opinion that the level of activity by Immigration and police during this period does not in any way represent any hardening of attitude or abrasive action towards Guyanese nationals. The bottom line here is that Barbados has a serious problem of illegal, unchecked and undocumented migration and this government is doing something about it,” he stated.

‘Unfair generalisations’
Thompson said he was bewildered and disgusted “at the reckless and grossly unfair generalisations and slurs levelled against public officers in particular, and Barbadians in general, on the issue of unchecked migration in Barbados”.

“To date it appears that because of partisan political considerations by some in our midst that there will not be a position of consensus on the tackling of this issue. However, I would like to warn of the harmful damage that is being done to this country by those who over dramatise and try to out dramatise each other in their opposition to the Government’s decision to tackle this issue in a meaningful way,” he said.

The Prime Minister also made it clear that “there is a growing problem of undocumented, illegal and unchecked migration in Barbados and this government will effect policies to contain, manage and curtail this trend before it gets out of control and does irreparable harm to the social, cultural and economic fabric of Barbados”.

“The government’s position in this matter is resolute and it will not change. To date we have announced and implemented one of several policy measures that will be pursued over time in our quest to bring this matter under control. We will monitor that initiative and we will make adjustments if and where necessary, but we will not be deterred by those who have sought to drain every ounce of emotional blood from this issue,” he said.

I hear you on that one. That why as a Guyanese I hold my head up high. I respect everyone who respect me, be you old or young. But at the same time, I refuse to take crap from anyone. One day Guyana will raise again and we will welcome everyone, with open arms. Because we are a people of love and not hate. Plus most of them that will be coming to Guyana, will have Guyanese blood in them.

There are many indo-guyanese living in Barbados , legal and illegally . george forde , I am also fed-up with the anti-bajan lumpen elements , many of whom are saying that Bajans are ungrateful eventhough , Barbados has been helping all of our neighbours - including times when disaster visits them . george forde , you must return to Barbados and see how well guyanese are living here .

First but not least, Mr Jagdeo should step out and look into Guyana through a `microscope`, it´s a shame and disgrace at what´s happening there and to the Guyanese elsewhere. Poor living conditions, low wages, crime increase, racial splurs, incompetent people in high positions, a delapidated university, etc. Citizens ought to be comfortable where they live and call home thus no one feels safe and at home in Guyana. As I am no longer there, I don´t intend to return and my home is where i am now. May God bless Guyana.....

Mr.President , this blog is directed to you and even if you don't read the Stabroek News online , Norman Faria will share the contents with you .
1. You are a failure as a political leader and as a result of your ineptitude , Guyaneses' are fleeing their homeland .
2. Many Guyaneses' have taken their criminal behaviour to other countries and Barbados is one of those countries . Some of them have been charged and found guilty for trafficking illegal drugs also the importation ; others for murder - guyanese are murdering guyanese in Barbados !!
3. You are using this situation with the illegal Guyanese immigrants as a "red-herring" to divert attention from the crime that is destroying Guyana . How many Guyanese died as a result of domestic violence in the past 12 months ? how many traffickers of illegal drugs were caught with illegal drugs at the Cheddi Jagan Airport in the last 12 months ?? How many guyanese were murdered in Guyana in the past 12 months ?? How many drugs-lords were arrested and charged in other countries in the past 12 months ??
4. When will Barbados be paid the $20 million plus interest , which Guyana owes us via the now defunct Multilateral Clearing Facility ??
5. We in Barbados treat Guyanese better here than they are treated in Guyana and that is the main reason why they don't want to leave here.
6. President Jagdeo , you are not a better political leader than Prime Minister David Thompson and that is why Barbados is superior to Guyana , political and socio-economically . The government and people of Barbados are earning foreign exchange and Guyanese living here , many of whom are illegal immigrants , are sending it to Guyana , illegally - yes , some Guyanese here are paying $3 barbados for $1 US . A guyanese man who was living in Silver Hill had an illegal method of sending money to Guyana until he was arrest. I hear there are thers doing the same trade . Mr. President , We are a friendly and hospitable people but we will not accept the lies that are being told about us by anti-social lumpen elements because there are Guyaneses' residing here in Barbados , many of whom are living better than Bajans - some have been awarded Barbados National Honours and for many years , the DPP of Barbados Mr.Charles Leacock , is a Guyanese ; a man who is well-respected by all in this country .

Psydium,

Talk is cheap, crap talk is cheaper, and crap talk from foreign shores is the cheapest. These bloggers are not interested in Guyana. For one reason or another, they want to get rid of the PPP in the worst possible way. So they spend their time lambasting the Guyana government with the hope that this will result in the PNC being returned to power with the help of the AFC. Read these blogs and you will see that most of the bloggers are anti-PPP with one specific agenda. If they love Guyana as they want you to believe, I suggest that they should return to Guyana and participate in the political process and get their party (PNC + AFC) in power. They must also live under the elected government. But they would not do that, no they will not. Mouthing off from thousands of miles away is easier, safer, and a perfect hedge for their prosperity. They claim that a bell must be hung around the PPP’s neck but they are not willing to tie the bell on that neck. Their lives are governed by Stephen HARPER or Barack Obama. They do not mind sticking any fool in Guyana Government just as long as it replaces the PPP. Perhaps they should spend some time finding a real alternative to the PPP, PNC, and AFC. Instead they enjoy peeing in the wind.
