Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday ordered that a 16-year-old boy be kept in police custody when he appeared before her accused of chopping three men with a cutlass after they interfered with his girlfriend in a disco at Lethem.
The men were hospitalized for several days after the incident.

The teen, who appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, stood expressionless in the dock of the court where he was told that he was not required to plead to the indictable charges of inflicting grievous bodily harm on one man, unlawfully wounding another and feloniously wounding the third.

It is alleged that on June 21 at Sattie’s Disco, Lethem, the teen inflicted grievous bodily harm on Jimmy Glasgow. The teen is also accused on the same day and place of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Orin Hendricks.

The teen is further accused of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Royston Alleyne, with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause him actual bodily harm the same day and place.

The prosecution stated that on the day in question the teen and his girlfriend entered the disco and shortly after Glasgow, Hendricks and Alleyne started to interfere with the girl. The teen asked the men to desist from taunting his girlfriend, but the men continued even more brazenly, much to the teen’s annoyance.

A heated argument then ensued between the teen and the men and the teen reportedly then pulled out a cutlass from his pants’ waist and dealt each of the men several chops about their bodies which caused them to be hospitalized. The teen and his girlfriend fled the scene shortly after.

The magistrate ordered that the teen be kept in police custody and the matter be transferred to Lethem Magistrate’s Court for September 8.

Once again we see how much respect men have for women in Guyana. The fact that she was with her man and he asked them to leave her alone should have been enough for these men to desist from taunting her. I am not condoning what he did but these dudes got what they were asking for.

It looks as though this teenager went prepared.
Maybe it was not the first time these guys taunted his girlfriend.
Although I do not approve of the violence he used, he told the aggressors to desist from taunting his girlfriend. They continued with their taunts, hence the consequences. And it was not one of them but three. I guess they learn their lesson now.
