Albert Van Vieldt, who was naked and barely alive on Monday on a dam at the back of Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara, passed away yesterday morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) where he was admitted on Monday night.
Stabroek News was unable to contact the man’s relatives yesterday but according to hospital officials the man died yesterday morning and his body is at the hospital’s morgue.
Van Vieldt of Supply, East Bank Demerara is said to be 84 and left his home since June 19 without informing his wife of his destination.
He was found naked and weak lying on the dam with his feet in water by some workers near the Lamaha Conservancy at the back of the East Bank village. Stabroek News was told on Monday night that the man may have been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and would from time to time leave his home and return in a day or too.
When the man was found he was reportedly groaning and ants and other insects were attacking him.
Workers dressed the man in a pair of trousers and shirt before he was removed by the police.

A man survives the elements for almost two weeks but is dead within two days at the GPH. Is the GPH a hospital or a funeral home?
BORAPORK, I was thinking the same thing. Most of the time someone goes there, they end up dead.
BP,
It appears this man received substandard care at GPHC.
Corbin, you are one lucky fella.
KN said yesterday it was the American That’s missing.
I guess they were wrong.

How can a 84 year old Alzheimer patient be allowed to roam around on his own?
Ah well, it is said when mankind reaches its zenith of progress, will regress into barbarism, we as a nation have seemingly reached our zenith in the 60ths.
veronica, sometime these elderly just wander off without giving notice, we can’t always be looking at them people have things to do and as soon as you wink they gone, so don’t blame anyone, it happens here in the u.s too.
Sometimes it is very difficult to keep an eye on them, unless they are locked up, and they can be smart too, as soon as you let down your guard, they are gone.

Thanks for the correction. It was a typo.
HA!HA!HA!
This man was missing for two weeks, yet there were no mention of him in none of the newspapers, seems as though no one made a missing persons report or was even looking for him.
