Albert Van Vieldt, who was naked and barely alive on Monday on a dam at the back of Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara, passed away yesterday morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) where he was admitted on Monday night.
Stabroek News was unable to contact the man’s relatives yesterday but according to hospital officials the man died yesterday morning and his body is at the hospital’s morgue.
Van Vieldt of Supply, East Bank Demerara is said to be 84 and left his home since June 19 without informing his wife of his destination.
He was found naked and weak lying on the dam with his feet in water by some workers near the Lamaha Conservancy at the back of the East Bank village. Stabroek News was told on Monday night that the man may have been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and would from time to time leave his home and return in a day or too.
When the man was found he was reportedly groaning and ants and other insects were attacking him.
Workers dressed the man in a pair of trousers and shirt before he was removed by the police.

What about Albert’s relatives ? One might think that after being gone for approx. two weeks a missing person report would have been filed earlier, given the state of his mental health. If such a report was indeed filed ! Poor fellow, my condolences to his widow. I would not blame the GPH for his demise.
blame the family for his demise and not gph. with his condition and age, if his family had reported him missing earlier he might have lived.
Mr Quibian, Unfortunately since you do not have all the evidence necessary you cannot make any such allegation. One cannot assess blame either to the GPH nor family until ALL evidence is brought forth. It is always easy to blame someone for another person’s misfortunte but if you read the information presented you will realize that this was an elderly man and therefore his wife is also elderly. Do you know if he had any children? NO. Do you know any other information pertaining to this issue? NO. So please let’s pray about the situation instead of blaming someone else.
Most likely ants and other insects entered his ears and nostrils, he was starved for all those weeks.
He had to be a nice person, God allowed persons to find him, before he was eaten alive by other animals.
He needs to rest now, lived to a good young age, (not old age.)
