Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday ordered that a sixteen-year-old boy, who allegedly broke and entered a man’s home and stole a quantity of items valued over $170,000, be kept in police custody shortly after he appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

The East Ruimveldt teen pleaded not guilty to the charge of break and enter and larceny.
He denied that he broke and entered the dwelling of Travis Atwell between June 23 and 24 and stole two car decks and chargers, an MP4 player, a pair of boots, a quantity of clothing and several other items, totalling $170,285 in value.

Atwell, who was also present in court, said that he lived three houses away from the teen. He stated that his nephew had seen the teen wearing his shirt and the pair of boots some time after the incident. He noted that when he received that information he made checks in his home and discovered several other items missing. He later made a report at the police station.

The prosecution  stated that the teen initially had told the police that he was 21-years old.

The magistrate subsequently ordered that the teen be kept in police custody and that he appear back in court on July 3. She also ordered that the teen’s birth certificate be presented to the court.
