Twenty-two persons graduated from a three-day Trauma Team Training (TTT) workshop on Sunday and were urged by Minister of Health, Dr Leslie Ramsammy “to make sufficient use of their skill to reduce trauma”. According to a release from the Government Information Agency (GINA), the new TTT specialists are medical personnel from Regions Two, Three, Four, Six and Ten and they join 76 others who are already qualified in TTT. The workshop was a collaborative effort by the Health Science Education, Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and the Canadian Network for International Surgery, which was launched in 2006 to better serve the medical emergency responses in Guyana and has so far seen over 100 medical personnel being trained in TTT, the release said.

It added that the graduates were exposed to knowledge and skills of standard trauma management, which are expected to effectively reduce the number of deaths caused by trauma each year. The course complements the World Health Organisation initiative for Essential and Emergency surgical care for developing countries like Guyana, the release added.

I think we need a team at every intersection in Georgetown. The Funeral Home lobby must be really infuriated at this government step. Good move Mr Minister.
