I am so happy, as a lot of blatent rapists are walking the streets with no DNA evidence to convict them and non-enforcement of existing rape laws where the offenders are Policemen. To my gay brothers and sisters, and underage victims who have suffered with no legal help, I believe this law will take care of some of the unnecessary discrimination and abuse netted out to you in the past.That is if the Policemen are trained on the violations contained therein.

reddy no ministry in guyana ever take independent action. it too a lot of public outcry and intense pressure from the guyanese people and AFG to realise this piece of legislation. pee pee pee supporters jhave their heads emersed in so much #$@% that the look for every opportunity to make the weak government look good.

You are a very sensible person Tiger and I do not wish for you to get like Samaroo,,,before these bills are tabled in parliment, there is a public consultation process across the Country and this is what takes the time, take into consideration that each Ministry has to look and many different things that are of interest to the country at the same time and against obstructive opposition elements…

Yes I read the article above………how about taking a pattern from the recent ruling in INDIA where sex between two consenting adults, “of the same sex”, is no longer a criminal offence.
Even though Guyan society is not ready as yet for gayrights, ect.
there is need for the laws to be changed.
These laws were incorporated form the British and ratified and re-written to fit our constuition.
This is 2009, visit soem of these outdated laws and change them in keeping with changes happening all over the world.

this bil is very much welcome but should have been implemented years ago, the slow paced the govt took in passing these very necessary bills are a set back when it comes to protecting women and children who are at risk of being abused, the govt saw it necessary to act after voiced concerns and many protest were made by members of the public about its very slow paced to inact laws to protect the guyanese women and children.

The Guyana Humana Rights body had made “significant’ contributions. Who says so ? Why of course, SN. The description of “significant” is personal opinion and subjective thought of the writer– not reality.The reference to the so called “Coalition” gave them undeserving attention.
Overall, a good bill on the initiative of the Ministry which consulted with the people. The Ministry is doing a lot of good work, unprecedented on behalf of all the Guyanese people as we continue to progress and prosper. Hope there are penalties for the media for sensationalism and revealing identities of victims. Yesterday’s SN story of alledged crime against the little girl gave so much details , she could be identified…
