I have argued a long time ago that the Diaspora Guyanese are the ones that are upholding this incompetent PPP regime because of the money they send to their relatives which encourages laziness, a faulse sense of security and as you put it, political apathy.

Great company Guyana is with in the category of the highest proportion of remittance to GDP. Soon the US will accuse the government of engaging in a different form of human trafficing. Guess Prem Mizir and Elizabeth Daly, Marissa Lowen and the other members of the PPP Ghost Writers Club are very proud of Jagdeo's accomplishment. I hope they accept the fragile ground on which they stands since the evidence is slashing away at the propaganda. It is foolish to argue that remittances form migrants can finance a country's development when it is so fluid by its very nature.

Interesting in Guyana remittances actually expanded, and look at it's percetage of the GDP! Amazing! The backhand of that is that remittances might be the reason why the people of Guyana are not too interested in changing the political system aka getting rid of the PPP/PNC monopoly over Guyana. They are not suffering. They are not feeling the squeeze, therefore they don't have to get up and vote for change.

Seems like overseas Guyanese, including myself, are contributing to a large extent to this political apathy among the Guyanese at home.

A lot of fancy figures, but I wonder if our Gov. is monitoring this, as everyone knows that remittances account for a vast majority of the liquid cash within our system.
Not to mention the decline that will occur due to the Barbados saga.

Someone sends 50 dollars to a relative in Guyana a mere pittance we may assume, so why is a mega money agency like the world bank keeping tabs on this inflow of currency?

The reason is that these mere pittances amount to billions of dollars and where ever billions of dollars are flowing around the world these agencies want to know, because they want their cut, either that or they will declare a war on that particular system.
