President Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday challenged drug trafficker Roger Khan to “speak whatever he knows” about his connections here and who he was fighting for saying that he is not afraid and or worried about anything Khan would reveal.

“Let Khan speak whatever he knows because this so-called informant can’t know what I want. I have publicly said that Khan must say who he was fighting on behalf of…,” Jagdeo said in reference to a statement made by US government informant, Selwyn Vaughn whose explosive testimony in the US trial of Khan’s former attorney Robert Simels has again triggered questions about Khan’s connections to the present administration.

The Head of State declared at a press conference at the Office of the President that his administration has nothing to hide, and that he would welcome what Khan has to say at any time. He said his government saw both the Buxton gang and Khan’s outfit as criminal enterprises, which it was opposed to since “our job is to bring down criminal enterprises”.

Speaking to reporters at the press conference, who he said seemed eager to ask about the revelations in the Simels’ trial, Jagdeo said, “I am here to take your questions. But let me make it clear that this government will never sanction the killing of people or encourage it or work with anyone to do this. In fact, when Roger Khan issued a full page ad saying he was helping the government to fight criminals, I publicly said at that time, ‘ you tell us which government you were helping because it couldn’t be this government,’” Jagdeo declared.

The President said he is not afraid of anything Khan has to say and said that if Khan was allegedly killing criminals in Buxton he could not have been helping his administration.

President Bharrat Jagdeo

President Bharrat Jagdeo

“Maybe if at the end of the day, if all the criminals were to deal with each other we may have a better society but I am not going to sanction that. This is not government policy… but I wouldn’t lose any sleep, frankly speaking, about criminals when they kill each other,” Jagdeo said.

“I shouldn’t say this as Head of State but I am saying this because that is the truth. I don’t lose any sleep, but when innocent people are killed it bothers me tremendously; people who beg them for their lives and are shot. People who [suffer] hijacking…,” he said continued.

Questioned about US informant Vaughn, Jagdeo said he never knew of him prior to the newspaper reports that are now emerging. He said if the Guyana Police Force had information about Vaughn prior to him leaving for the US then questions about why he was not held and possibly prosecuted should be directed to the police commissioner.

“This is the first time I have ever heard of the name. In fact, this is the first time I have ever heard of this person and they said to me that he is from Plaisance,” Jagdeo said, referring to Vaughn.

Still on Vaughn, Jagdeo said what he found very strange and revealing in the [SN] article was that the informant was part of the gang that executed Ronald Waddell. Jagdeo had a copy of yesterday’s Stabroek News in his possession at the press conference and he referred to the lead story as he addressed questions on Vaughn.

“From now on if you believe all that this informant is saying you have to also believe that he [Waddell] was a member of the Buxton gang and that he was basically in a criminal enterprise. Waddell was a criminal involved in a criminal enterprise. So I am very interested in this,” Jagdeo said.

The President said that a few hostile media houses had tied his government to Waddell’s death because the slain talk-show host was critical of his administration. But he said the revelations from Vaughn have changed all this, adding that Vaughn plainly stated why Waddell was killed.

Criminal investigation

Asked whether his administration should not now initiate a Commission of Inquiry into the activities of the death squad linked to Khan the President said it is likely that a criminal investigation would be done at some point in time. But he rejected the idea of holding an inquiry.

“You don’t need a Commission of Inquiry to go after criminal acts, the police should do that, not a special commission and they should get to the perpetrators and prosecute them. What you need more is investigation and prosecution… because what was alleged [here] are criminal acts,” he said.

Jagdeo repeatedly stated in his response that his government “does not go on the basis of allegations” while asserting that there is nothing for a commission of inquiry to address.

“Already you have allegations that criminals acts were done by several individuals on our territory. These have to be investigated by the CID… once the police get the information they should proceed on it,” he added.

The President said he has pointed out to the police commissioner that the force has an obligation to investigate any breach of the local laws saying that he urged Police Commissioner Henry Greene to write to the US government.

“I said to him you should seek the help of the US government so he wrote to the US government… He said to me after a while that he has received a letter from the ambassador saying they would have to await the conclusion of the case before they extend that help,” he added.

He said also that at some point in time the security forces would be privy to all the evidence that is being led in the US courts.

Jagdeo might be also acting as Khan’s therapist. Khan speaking might also clear his conscience and help him serve his time more at peace. I hope his lawyer and family will encourage him to speak now, if not soon. A tape recording of confessions/apologies sent to the Guyana police and various families affected during his reign as a criminal should be part of the terms of his plea deal. I can almost assure you that his probation officer is working on that right now.

Also, when members of this group were detained and their equipment seized by members of a Guyana Defense Force (GDF) patrol on the East Coast of Demerara how and under whose instruction were they freed and the equipment (now in the hands of U. He made it very clear that he will not lose any sleep f the criminals were to kill each other . His own words condemn him and he really should resign as President of the Republic of Guyana . This same President is telling the world that guyanese are ill-treated in Barbados , yet he is inviting anarchy in his own country.
Jagdeo should encourage Dr. Ramsammy to go to the USA and clear his name because it is being called in connection with Roger Khan too often . This is interesting folks, the president believes the informant where it pertains to Waddell. Stating, “From now on if you believe all that this informant is saying you have to also believe that he [Waddell] was a member of the Buxton gang and that he was basically in a criminal enterprise. Waddell was a criminal involved in a criminal enterprise. So I am very interested in this,”

Yet he will not believe what the same informant have to say about people in his administration. Mr. President you can’t have it both ways. You either accept all the informant have said under oath, accepting all as being accurate based on his recollection, or none is correct.

The president should loose sleep over all killings in his country, because these killings, no matter who the victims or perpetrators are will caste a very dark shadow over the country. I’ve spent time in Guyana, and loved it. I try encouraging my friends and family to pay a visit, and all they are concerned about is the crime. They are not concerned whether those being killed are criminals or not, they only hear about the crime. So for a president not to care while the image of his country is being destroyed is SAD.

Based on what the president is saying here, one could imagine that his administration took the policy of not getting in the way of Khan while he and his gang were causing destruction.

I don’t know too much about the law in guyana, but that should make him guilty of something.

You should try and understand that any government of Guyana which ensures the freedom to vote and ensures democratic freedoms must score a good B grade JUST FOR DOING THAT.

Democracy is precious especially in Guyana where there are people in the wings willing to forment unrest at a moment’s notice. We heard distant rumblings of unrest with the recent bombing.
Only when democracy is secure and enshrined in the minds of all citizens can the country aspire to try and reach for Grade A status.

Rubbish. Well, like nobody can’t talk to the Dr. without the Dr. being accused of crime. Dr. Ramsammy is a Minister and is a servant of the public which means that he has the obligation to meet with the public or any member of the public. This doesn’t mean because he met with Vaughn he’s (Ramsammy) a member of a criminal gang (unless Vaughn was a wanted man by the police or a known gangster which he wasn’t at the time of meeting with the Minister). Waddell on the other hand is mentioned by Vaughn as not only meeting with the criminal gangs in Buxton, but aiding and assisting the gangs to get guns supplied by Allison with the help of the GDF and the Police to get the guns to Buxton.

Actually he is not singing to save his life, he was given immunity from future prosecution. Which means, what he is disclosing presently cannot be used against him in the future. The only reason the US government gave him that protection, is because they know that he had first-hand knowledge of what went on, and evidence the US have collected corroborate with what he is now saying. The same system was used to put Gotti behind bars, it is a system that is used in the US court system. It is not just his word, there is evidence as well.

It is quite naive of the president, to think that the US government gave this guy immunity, without knowing that what he knew was factual. what the president did in that statement is to state that he only believes the parts of the witnesses statements that are favorable to his administration (Waddell part), for the rest of the evidence he has decided to put his head in the sand.

    • BTSS UNITED STATES says:

Reddy, the President’s response was very poor. He doesn’t lose sleep when criminals kill each other??? What manner of Head of State is he? Does he expect an increase in tourism arrivals in this wild west atmosphere? Meanwhile, Roger Khan’s group was also criminal but rather than going after them, the Government returns the seized electronic equipment. What a mess. Reddy, keep your Government, Commissioner of Police etc. No other Caribbean country would want them.

    • SKY (High cn C everything frm Here) UNITED STATES says:

That’s right SN why didn’t you run a picture of all the innocent people massacred along with the photo of Ronald Waddell in your article yesterday about the informant’s allegations regarding Roger Kahn ordering the killing of Ronald Waddell. You know SN you would do a whole lot better if you run these things past Reddy before you go to press. the man is a freaking genius.

    • ALL_Gt UNITED STATES says:

Reddy, the ruthless acts committed by Fineman and his gang were condemned for their brutality. However, if public officials who are sworn to uphold the laws of the land conspire with known criminal elements to break the same laws they swore to uphold, they should face the consequences. You cannot have one set of laws for the general populace and another set for your friends whose actions are criminal and are of a convenience. And all those who are of the opinion that Khan’s group with the alleged assistance of some government officials were justified in their action, should now wake up from their ‘blind faith slumber of support’and seek justice for the innocent who were brutally murdered in the quest to bring Fineman and his gang to justice. The actions of both parties are criminal. Fineman and his gang are dead, the other groups are as guilty as he is but they are alive and well.

    • Yo “Reddy in Barbados”! Though I was not a big admirer of the late Dr. Walter Rodney (at the time a close associate of my brother), why were there no riots in the streets in Georgetown when he was reportedly killed at the hands of the Guyanese security forces. How would you have wished for the then pro-government news papers to have published pictures!!!

    • Also, how about making a distinction between what Dr. Walter Rodney was caught up in and that in which the late Ronald Waddell was caught up in when one comes to think about it all.

    • HEATHER THOM SAINT LUCIA says:

WHY YOU GUYS CAN’T SEE WHAT IS GOING ON IN OUR COUNTRY MY PEOPLE.

    • Yo “Soldier (Opposition Forces at Work)”!

Did ya really mean to say “Thank you Brazil (substituting for Reddy in Barbados) and well said Mr (Brazilian/Guyana) President… for the Takutu Bridge.

Now ponder this Guyanese proverb: “Nah mind how pumpkin vine run, he must dry up one day.”; and, remember the words of the song that says: “the evil that men do lives long after they are gone…”!

    • RodRick (Dis is one bias newspaper) UNITED STATES says:

      Reddy,
      Well said,
Yesterday my comments got axed one after another when I raised questions about PNCR’s alleged involvement with the Buxton gangs. I’m assuming that yesterday’s moderator had his own agenda with the Waddell story.
About Waddell’s picture, dressed in his graduation robe, where did Stabroke find such a Photo? It surprises me that Stabroek News can find such debonair images of people who are on the Opposition side of things; yet, the same image of the Head of State shown above with his mouth open in font of a tape recorder gets published repeatedly.
Portrait Picture of Mr. Corbin and other PNCR leaders with the Golden Arrow Head in the back ground often gets Published on SN; Why can’t this Newspaper do the same for the President of a country.
Are some photos published on SN being used to promote or demote certain people?

    • Dude (SN Bias) CANADA says:

Well said, Reddy. I think SN was being a little coy when they put Waddell’s grad pic. They wanted to show the ‘astute’ leadership of the Buxton gang, which was always one step ahead of the GPF. The thing is, wasn’t Waddell associated with a certain political party, which would implicate the party in the gang’s activities. Remember some politicians attending the funeral of some criminals.

    • Brandon Samaroo (RajaGate - Eye for an eye mek jagdeo blind) CANADA says:

Ah red rover you are back? wow this is great you got your foot out of your ahhhhhh ummm mouth eh. Good stuff man good stuff glad to have you back on the opposition newspaper.

    • Reddy aka Norma Faria , what are you saying ? President Bharrat Jagdeo is the worse Head-of-State among the Caricom members and Guyana is a failed state !! How can Jagdeo be doing good work and improving Guyana and guyanese are fleeing their homeland ? Reddy , when did this improvement and development took place in Guyana under the PPP government ? Guyana is a comfort zone for criminals and Jagdeo is inviting anarchy when he call on the criminals to kill each other . Two gangs killing each other while the inept PPP government stood by and watched them . Reddy , are you saying that Waddell should be dressed like a bum and that would justify him being murdered ? I want to know if any of the members of the two gangs are living in Barbados and if the answer is yes , then the authorities should send them back to Guyana . All you intend to do is to come on Stabroek News and try to condemn the editor and you tried the same thing with Wickham at CBC on Monday when a lady criticised the inept PPP government . Why do you want to run this news paper and the mass media in Barbados ? Why are you so annoyed when people speak the truth about the PPP government ? Reddy , if you want to be treated like a diplomat , then you must function like one and stop being a toady for Jagdeo and his govt .

    • APEEPINU UNITED STATES says:

csingh,,,,What will happen in the EDNY court room will shock you….stay tuned, for that is to only thing that matters.

Wiggins,,,your mouth are full of froth, you and samaroo are of the same type,,Like empty barrels and you know what they do….

  9. Dandy Andy UNITED STATES says:

    1. When Roger Khan revealed to the US diplomats that Major David Clarke was aligned with the Buxton criminal elements, to whom did he report this? Why did the President move to have Clarke returned from overseas training on receipt of word he was aligned to the Buxton gang? Wasn’t the President acting on information received from Roger Khan?

    2. Why didn’t the President speak out after Khan and two others were arrested at Good Hope with an eavesdropping device, high-powered weapons and in an armoured car, only to be released and had had their stuff returned to them? This was in the news and the President, who is known for publicly commenting on criminality, said nothing!

    3. If Khan, a self-confessed drug baron and an alleged conspirator to mass murder, said he worked with certain government people to fight criminals and save the government, he should know. How can the President not know Khan, but can know all the other stuff happening in Guyana? It may yet surprise the President what Khan revealed to US prosecutors in his plea deal.

    • By his deeds shall a man be known UNITED STATES says:

Very good point Andy. Do you fellow bloggers know that the equipment, etc they had in their possession when they were arrested at Good Hope was apparently not tendered as evidence in the trial?

    • GTKING48 UNITED STATES says:

Dandy Andy you are way off base on your observation of the jag. What audacity of you.Did you not know that Jagdeo was diagnosed with a RARE illnees. It is a secret but i let you in on it.The affliction is called(SHS) selective hearing and speaking.

Please do not divulge this information to any one else.It is a breach of medical ethics and confidentiality.

    • tyronemiller UNITED STATES says:

Well said D Andy, the President has 2 portfolio’s, he is the President & the information Minister, he has all the information on every thing that goes on in GY, yet whenever certain question pop up on him & his ministers the denied them all. The President is losing his mind piece by piece, y is he attacting RK today, the court proceedings had nothing top do with RK, it was just the informat testifying aganist Mr Simels, who was set up by the same informat with info from RK to eliminate all the witness, Mr Jadgeo u can now release the video that u have on the buxton gang to the public, let the public believe in u for once, Bob Marley say how long shall the kill our profit while we stand aside & look,

    • withavoice UNITED STATES says:

Andy….good points, this is the same President that said the earesdropping device that was used the track criminal gangs in GT by Khan and what the US has is not the same……LOL!! he full of joke man!

    • Brandon Samaroo (RajaGate - Eye for an eye mek jagdeo blind) CANADA says:

I cannot wait to see that plea deal when that lands in the public domain.

    • Soldier (Opposition Forces at Work) UNITED STATES says:

Dandy Andy,,, You are operating like Christopher Colombus, you just discover,,,,All them questions u asking now was already ansewred and the rest of the bloggers are way past that…You are in the middle of the ocean all by yourself grabbing at straw…
