A nine-year-old girl of Number 30 Village, West Coast Berbice was raped by a man who angry relatives say was on bail for raping another child. He has since gone into hiding.
The girl’s mother told this newspaper yesterday that the incident occurred after she left her with her great grandmother across the street on Wednesday night to attend a wake in the village.
She said she was supposed to have picked up the child and her 10-year-old brother after returning from the wake but because it was late she decided to leave them. The following morning at around 6.30 the girl ran home crying.
When she questioned her, the child related that the man who was involved in a relationship with a female relative had raped her.
The woman immediately ran over to her grandmother’s house and inquired about the man’s whereabouts.
The grandmother responded that the man had left without telling anyone anything. The mother then made a report to the Fort Wellington Police Station but by that time the man had already disappeared. The police
are still on the hunt for him.
Reports are that the man had been placed on bail for a charge of carnal knowledge of a 10-year-old child of Number 28 Village. The incident involving the nine-year-old took place the day after the man had appeared in court.
There are reports that the man had also raped and attempted to rape other children around the same age but those matters were said to have been settled out of court.
“And why are they granting these people bail and letting them back on the streets?” This dude is just roaming freely and left to commit more of these violent acts against these innocent girls.
The man is a predator. If this isn’t a cut and dried case for life imprisonment, I don’t know what is.

I know of a woman down there who has a son, he is a habitual thief, he has a “thing” for mostly snatching chains; each time he got caught, she would “settle the matter” with the victims “AT-ANY-COST”. She would also lie to protect him from apprehension.
Today he is incarcerated in Cayenne on murder charges.
It is said that “The love of money is the root of all evil”. It is a double assault on the victim, especially when he/she is a victim of rape, then to be “pimped out” by his/her guardian; besides, what are we teaching the children?

Shouldn’t it have been stated as an accusation instead of a foregone conclusion?
This is sickening. The new sexual offences legislation which is languishing in the Parliament has new conditions for Bail for sexual offences, especially sexual offences against children. It is a shame that the political parties in parliament could not put the same energy into the protection of children as they do into other matters.
Start applying more pressure to force them to move this along. A letter writing campaign to Priya M. should be the first step.
What a sicko. This man is a serial rapist and should be in jail.
What the hell is going on here? Why was this man let out on bail after raping before, and why aren’t people protecting their children from people like this?
He should not see daylight for the next 30 years. By then he might be rehabilitated. I hope the nine year old gets immediate therapy, and not end up a troubled person later. That thief stole her innocence. May God punish him severely.
