-Greene
Commissioner Henry Greene yesterday said that the police have no evidence to believe there was foul play in the Essequibo River accident that left two men dead and a 10-year-old missing, as relatives are claiming.
“I would not be able to tell you that they found any evidence to support that position, but as soon we have anything that is worthwhile we would feed the public,” Greene said yesterday when asked if the men could have been robbed and killed as is the belief of their relatives.
Relatives of 45-year-old Jainarine Dinanauth and Henry Gibson, the same age, and 10-year-old Ricky Jainarine are maintaining that foul play was involved in the August 11 boat mishap and they have called on the police and army to listen to their plea for justice. The men were making the 30 minute trip from Parika to Hog Island when the incident happened.
Following the murder charges instituted against three Coast Guardsmen, Sherwyn Harte, Delon Gordon and Deon Greenidge, for the kidnapping and murder of Dweive Kant Ramdass, who was dumped in the Essequibo River last Thursday, Dinanauth and Gibson’s relatives called on the joint services to take a closer look as to whether those rogue army ranks could have been involved in their demise.
“We are investigating the mishap. I am not [privy] to that information as yet as to whether the coast guards were involved,” Greene said, when asked specifically of the possible involvement of the three ranks in the incident.
Asked whether the allegation was even put to the three coast guardsmen, Greene would only say that the police force is working on the case. He added that investigators were tied up with completing the investigation in Ramdass’ death and now that the men are charged they have more time to go “in-depth.”
Greene would not comment on reports of the green paint markings at the bottom of the boat following the boat accident which suggests that it had collided with a boat with green paint. The Coast Guard boat is painted in green. Dinanuath’s daughter Savitri had told Stabroek News about the alleged three-day docking of the Coast Guard vessel for maintenance following the accident.
Savitri said that she has video recorded evidence of the green paint and she also has a photograph of her father’s body position in the boat. A post-mortem done on the bodies of the two men revealed that they died as a result of blunt trauma to the head and drowning and Savitri said she believes the men were hit and then their heads were held under the water until they died.
Meanwhile, Stabroek News has been reliably informed that members of the Guyana Defence Force are investigating the incident although family members of the men are tight lipped. Reports surfaced that some army ranks are to meet with the mother of Jainarine, Salimoon Rahaman.
Yesterday Rahaman would only say that she once again went on a futile search for her son but this time unlike others the police were with her. “Well deh police went and we went to Fort Island [the coast guard base is in Fort Island] and dem drive around and look, look and talk to some people but dah is all,” the woman said. They did not visit the Makouria army base as was promised by the police.
Dinanuath reportedly had some raw gold on his person along with over $500,000 and a gold watch, all of which was missing when his body was found. He also had a bag that has not been found. The only thing found on his person was his licensed fire arm.

Mike Persaud in today’s LETTERS section comments further on this disturbing matter.

PPP is such a disgrace, this woman has to go and lead the search for her son?
How come we are not flying in forensic people from miami to gather evidence on the ballyhoo (Paint) and also on the GDF boat.
This crime could be easily solved but the longer the PPP and their cronies in the foolice and army continue to duck and hide and cover up. Nothing will happen.
PPP can fly jagdeo all over the world every week, but we cannot hire proper forensic investigators as consultants from Miami.
Shame, Shame Shame.
Brandon you should volunteer you PI skills to cases like these where you think the Gov is lacking.Stop pointing fingers,go and be part of the solution, like having your own independent investigating team.I’m sure Amen and Turbo would be more than willing to support you with this venture.
Samaroo, I have to agree with you on this one. The govt is invisible.
Mr Commissioner you are out of your mind I cannot really believe what you are saying,,,You are tasked by the people of Guyana to serve and protect and not to defend the opposition forces,,,You need to get out there and do a proper investigation into this Crime,,,The Government is getting all the blame here for your defensive mode. Mr President it is time you get involve in this mess that is being done by the police,,,Let them acuse you of micro manage, if that is the way it has to go…The opposition forces at work here, do not give them a chance…
I have not seen a statement form your power drunk AFC condemning these acts as yet, but you mouth running like when a GWI valve left open….
hey witch dr leave my name out of your conversation, and brandon is correct, your ppp govt is inept to the core.
How are you going to know what the AFC is doing from your lawn chair?
Get out of the trailer park go down to liberty soldier and you will read the AFC action in the kaiteur news man.
Call up somebady from chranic let dem fill you in. You watching too much hen c hen.
Soldier everybody is power drunk and this and that.
Only your ppp is not power drunk hahahahhahhaa yeah right!
Green has no credibility. The GPF is the epitome of corruption and an embarrassment to Guyana.
And a plague upon its people.
and who gat greene and rohee hawws hee hawws there?
I guess wid all dese square pegs in round holes the commandeer in chief really doesnt own any responsibility for all the woes eh?
Knowing the reactive nature of our police department I am not surprised that they have found no evidence to believe there was foul play. To find such evidence you have to be in the field doing investigations, not waiting for the evidence to fall in your lap. The police are still waiting for information on Roger Khan from the U.S.A. before proceeding with their investigations according to Commissioner Greene.
Is it any wonder these jesters never find evidence which will implicate them?
And is it any wonder that they quickly sound off the defensive bell when they are cornered?
With such a defensive, ostrich head-in-sand- leaders and senior officers, how can we trust the GDF and GPF to investigate misdemeanours against their own?
Bottom line, how can you trust these jesters period?
To: His Excellency, the Honorable president Jagdeo
Today is the 17th day since the boat mishap near Hogg Island. Early published reports say two bodies with marks of violence were discovered on the boat, a 10-year-old victim is still missing – and green paint was on the victims’s boat suggesting it was rammed by a green painted vessel.
The above article now says the post mortem revealed the men had died from both a blunt trauma blow on the head as well as drowning.
Mr. Jagdeo, your Minister of Home Affairs has yet to hold a press conference to clarify or say anything definitive on this incident.
Police Commissioner in the article says:
Quote: “We are investigating the mishap. I am not [privy] to that information as yet as to whether the coast guards were involved,” Greene said, when asked specifically of the possible involvement of the three ranks in the incident”. Unquote.
(17th day and “I am not [privy]….”). Is this man living in the 18th or 19th century? If this guy had been working for the Mayor of NYC he would have been canned in 24 hours.
Mr. Jagdeo, this statement by the Commissioner is going to do irreparable harm to the reputation of your govt. Today is the 17th day – and the Head of the Police is unable to say whether the allegation of green paint is true or not.
Either because of incompetency, gross neglect or corruption all your aides including the Home Affairs Minister and Police Commissioner have failed to speak with definition and clarity on this boat incident. It is sad. It is pathetic. It damages the reputation of your Administration.
I therefore urge you to hold a press conference and address the nation on this matter. It is either:there is green paint or no green paint on the victim’s boat.
Today is the 17th day – and this nation of 700,000 people still cannot get a definitive word from any appropriate official of the govt. By international standards this has to be a major scandal. And, a national shame.
Also Salimoon Rahaman, wife of one of the dead men, came to Georgetown to meet with govt. officials to demand an investigation. This would have been a publication relations coup for the Minister of Home Affairs or the Police Commissioner to step out of their meeting and meet with this grieving woman to offer comfort and assurances that everything would be done to investigate the matter thoroughly. Mr. President, How could your top aides be so insensitive? What other State matters could claim a higher priority on their time than to meet with this grieving woman?
Well said mike well said, these people have no hearts for a mother to have to go through what this woman is going through it is despicable and totally heartless for the government to treat her and her family like this.
The denials, dismissals and delays to just search for this 10 year old is ridiculous.
Do we have a war going on right now where is the army? why doesn’t best have them out there using every available private boat and government assets to find this child?
PPP is a shameless organization, heartless they do not care about the people of Guyana. All they care about is their cronies who can fill their pockets and they party cronies.
And to think this guy is a lawyer. Maybe he and Anil were class mates.
i guess the public is hungry that’s why they have to be fed by mr. greene, why do you rule out foul play and the evidence are there, this is just a cover up of what really happened.
Greene could not investgate boiling water if was happening right in front of face.
hhahahahah you are right on the money and his sidekick no seelal is no better either.
Up to now they have no evidence or reason to investigate Raja Khan now this is the same thing there is paint at the bottom of the ballyhoo that matches the paint on the GDF boat but Greeney has no reason to believe there could be linkages between this crime and the one where Mr. Ramdass was murdered by GDF soliders.
Common sense tells you that the similarity of these crimes warrant further exploration, did Greene and his band in the GPF gather paint chip evidence from all the boats involved? Has green suggested that we bring in some crime scene investigators from Miami with experience in this kind of thing to help ascertain the facts? hell no.
He didnt even send his police to go and look for this child after the crime public outcry sent them out there half heartedly yesterday so they can pretend they are doing something.
Somebody please pinch me, as I must still be dreaming.
let me see if I got this right….. The post-mortem revealed that these men “died as a result of blunt trauma to the head and drowning” yet our police commissioner is stating that “the police have no evidence to believe there was foul play in the Essequibo River accident….”
This have to be a typographical error on the part of SN.
I DON’T BELIEVE THIS, AUTHORITIES ARE SO BLIND FOR NOT SEEING THE EVIDENCE OF FOUL PLAY IN THE ESSEQUIBO RIVER BOAT ACCIDENT THAT KILL TWO ADULT AND LEAVING MY TEN YEAR OLD COUSIN MISSING FOR WEEKS NOW.
MY HEART GOES OUT TO MY AUNT AND THE REST OF THE FAMILY IN THIS TRAGIC STORY. WE ALL ARE HOPING FOR THE BEST AND HIS SAFE RETURN HOME. BY THE FAITH THAT WE HAVE, CONTINUED TO HAVE IN HIS LITTLE LIFE. WE WILL CONTIUNED TO KEEP OUR HOPE AND PRAYERS IN GOD THAT HE IS STILL ALIVE AND UNHARM.
I HOPE FOR MY COUSIN SAFE RETURN HOME.
