- was charged with attempted murder last year

A 19-year-old girl, who was last year charged with attempting to murder another girl, appeared on Wednesday before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court accused of attacking another girl with a knife.

Niketa Jordan of Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara entered a not guilty plea to the charge of unlawful assault, denying that on September 1 she unlawfully assaulted Fiona McKenzie.

McKenzie, who was present in court, stated that Jordan would taunt her every time she passed her house.

She said that on the day in question she was walking past Jordan’s home when Jordan saw her and began throwing indecent remarks at her. She said that when she continued walking Jordan picked up a knife and ran to her while issuing threats. She then took the knife and lashed her to her left shoulder.

McKenzie said she escaped and went to the police station where she made a report of the incident.

However, Jordan told the court, “all I tell she is that she is a sodomite but I never hit she.”

She said when she approached McKenzie she had a key in her hand and not a knife as McKenzie alleged.

The magistrate placed Jordan on bail in the sum of $20,000, on the condition that she desists from telling McKenzie anything.
The matter was transferred to Court Three for October 7.

Jordan was last year charged with the attempted murder of Haniyfa Cordis after she was accused of throwing hot oil in Cordis’s face while she was asleep at their Barr Street, Kitty, home.

It’s evident this young woman has anger management issues and before long the word “attempted” will be missing from future charges on her appearance in court. I find the bail set too low for so serious a crime.
