Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday ordered that a carpenter be remanded to prison after he allegedly attempted to murder his stepdaughter by chopping her in her face with a cutlass.

Thirty-nine-year-old Clayton Marks of Lot 15 Hogg Street, Albouystown, was not required to plead to the indictable charge of attempt to commit murder when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It was alleged that on September 18 at his Albouystown home, Marks, with intent to commit murder, wounded Linda Lespair.
The magistrate subsequently ordered that the unrepresented Marks be remanded to prison and that he appear back in court on October 16.
Prosecutor Kevin London informed the court that Lespair is currently hospitalized at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the George-town Public Hospital (GPH).

He stated that on the day in question, around 7.30 am, Marks and his wife (Lespair’s mother) were involved in an argument and he subsequently dealt her several cuffs.

Lespair, who witnessed the incident, intervened in an attempt to protect her mother from the blows, but was reportedly dealt several chops to her face with a cutlass by Marks.

She was subsequently rushed to the GPH Accident and Emergency Unit and was treated and admitted to the Female Surgical Ward. She was later transferred to the ICU.
