Almost two weeks after being struck down by a Canter at Mahaicony, 8–year-old Sunil Singh, remains attached to a life support machine in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital.

His mother Ramrattie Tiwari told this newspaper yesterday that though her son has opened his eyes a little, he was experiencing a severe shortness of breath and was being closely monitored.

She said that she remained hopeful that the lad would recover from his injuries, stating that she was leaving everything to the Almighty.
A brain scan was performed on the young Mahaicony Primary School student at a private hospital and the results indicated that he sustained severe injuries to his head.

According to reports, Singh was on his way home from school during the lunch break on October 7 when he was struck down by the vehicle, GHH 9532.

He was standing on the road shoulder close to a pedestrian crossing near his home, along with two classmates waiting to cross the road, when he was struck down by the vehicle.

He landed several feet away from the point of impact after he was hit by the vehicle.

His friends escaped unhurt by running into a nearby yard after noticing the Canter truck heading in their direction.
