A woman died at the Georgetown Public Hospital early yesterday after reportedly being beaten by a male relative.
Dead is Dionne Skeete, a mother of four, of Enmore, East Coast Demerara. Relatives, who gathered at the home yesterday refused to comment stating that any reports would be psychologically damaging to the children.
While details are sketchy, this newspaper was told that Skeete and the assailant were at the Guinness Bar in Enmore on Saturday night. She later left and went home. Reports are that after not seeing her, her brother went to the home and saw her lying down. She reportedly told him that she was feeling unwell and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital. She died at around 3am yesterday.
This newspaper was told that Skeete had been beaten and her body bore marks. Villagers said that she was constantly physically abused by the man. It is unclear if he was taken into police custody.

Junk story.
Don’t expect sympathy from you on this one. If such an incident had happened in Linden, Golden Grove or Agricola, you would have cried out like a lil…oops! can’t say that on SN.
Sandhurst–I definitely do not think bringing the abuse of women to the forefront is a JUNK story.
SH. She was someone’s child. She was someone’s mother. She was someone’s sister. She was someone’s friend. Even if she did not deserve your respect, she was given the breath of life by the same loving God that gave you your breath of life. It’s not a Junk story. It’s a Sad story. No one deserves to die that way. I hope that all the cruel, hard hearted men in Guyana assemble by the banks of the nearest streams and weep until the lowest stream overflows its most exalted banks, to rid themselves of the evil which has over come them. May she RIP.
nah, nah, nah, blame ot on raja kan
The breakdown of society. Nobody has respect for the law or each other anymore in Guyana.
I am speechless!!! This is sad, i saw her only during the summer. My sympathy to her family. Oh boy!!! Shevonne, i know you will miss your sister. you are in my prayers.
RodRick, she is a woman from golden grove/nabaclis who lived in enmore.
This sickness is taking over the land, my condolences goes out to the family, and whosoever is responsible for her demise needs to be prosecuted to the fullest of the land.
Another woman beaten to death by the person who is supposed love her.Ow lawd wha really ah tek place ah Guyana. We overseas based Guyanese should start attaching strings to our remittances like “yuh beat yuh wife yuh can’t draw”,this will surely help in someway.
Marc what are you on about overseas it happen all over the world. how about stop the abuse regurdless of where you are in the world.
My condolences to this family,,,this is sad.
Where are the real men? The men who would walk away when they are not satisfied with their women rather than taking their lives? The men who understand that the woman is not perfect but is prepared to live with her like she lives with his shortcomings?
The story said male relative, was her relative her lover? this sounds conflicing.
You mean like Raja Khan who stood up to dem “Buxton Badman” for innocent women and children of ECD?
GT ATLANTA, the press normally reffers to the husband or lover as a male relative, until he is charged, then they refer to him as husband or lover.
My Sympathies to her children.
Is violence against women in Guyana decreasing?
May-be you should ask G.H.R.A.
i,m a bit confused after reading this story………help me out someone…
Genesis6:6 ” And the Lord was sorry He made man on the earth.”
So the Lord maketh a mistake which he forsaw not.
dd that means Humans. The word man was being used there to mean Human Beings, not members of the male gender.
Get with it man, and stop talking off the top of your head as you always do!!!
Amrit. I know that He was talk about humans, both male, female and in between. Duh. I know the English language. Keep your narrow thinking to yourself.
Amrit Singh. Stop trying to talk with both feet in your mouth.
Many guyanese have a propensity for violence , therefore these senseless killings will continue , unabated .
cut the big words and speak sense… why r u so negative,, this killing cannot continue unless u encourage it as you’re doing now… and to be fair this is a WORLD thing that must stop NOW… its call bullying to the max
And we register our disgust, and move on, every time it happens .But there is nothing tangible being done to stop this violence to women, our Mothers/sisters/Aunts/nieces and cousins.Lip Service.
