A woman died at the Georgetown Public Hospital early yesterday after reportedly being beaten by a male relative.

Dead is Dionne Skeete, a mother of four, of Enmore, East Coast Demerara. Relatives, who gathered at the home yesterday refused to comment stating that any reports would be psychologically damaging to the children.

While details are sketchy, this newspaper was told that Skeete and the assailant were at the Guinness Bar in Enmore on Saturday night. She later left and went home. Reports are that after not seeing her, her brother went to the home and saw her lying down. She reportedly told him that she was feeling unwell and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital. She died at around 3am yesterday.

This newspaper was told that Skeete had been beaten and her body bore marks. Villagers said that she was constantly physically abused by the man. It is unclear if he was taken into police custody.

Don’t expect sympathy from you on this one. If such an incident had happened in Linden, Golden Grove or Agricola, you would have cried out like a lil…oops! can’t say that on SN.

SH. She was someone’s child. She was someone’s mother. She was someone’s sister. She was someone’s friend. Even if she did not deserve your respect, she was given the breath of life by the same loving God that gave you your breath of life. It’s not a Junk story. It’s a Sad story. No one deserves to die that way. I hope that all the cruel, hard hearted men in Guyana assemble by the banks of the nearest streams and weep until the lowest stream overflows its most exalted banks, to rid themselves of the evil which has over come them. May she RIP.
