President of the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) Colwyn King who was accused of having sex with a girl under the age of 15 was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
The allegation is that on October 7 at Georgetown, King had sex with a female under the age of 15.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge of carnal knowledge when it was read to him by the acting chief magistrate.
The matter was called to the bench and a lengthy discussion ensued.
King’s calm expression suddenly changed to a state of shock on learning that he would have to spend the next four days at the Camp Street prison.
As he reluctantly walked towards the chute to be escorted out of the courtroom, the defendant kept shaking his head in disbelief at being remanded.
The accused was represented by attorney-at-law Mark Waldron.
He was ordered to return to court on November 9.

Is wuh going on with these big men in this country???
SHF…man you in Guyana and probably hear more of the case from rumours than the papers carry.
The GC said that the child made a complaint and identified the defendant. This was some time after the alleged ‘incident’.
The police called in him for questioning, then sometime later (probably a few days), they decided to lay a charge and called him to appear in Court. That he did:
1. no facts given to the Court
2. simply a charge read
3. remand to prison requested
4. defence objects
5. Magistrate decides on remand.
Justice?
This man should have resigned president of the Teachers Union the same day he was arrested but at the same time allowed bail until his court date.
Is he being treated differently because of whom he is? Can prominence in society also be a disadvantage?
HE MUST FACE HIS TRAIL, NO LET LOOSE.
If this true he should be ashamed.
I am Sorry for King but not surprised. In Guyana everyone knows that some public officials think they are above the law. I hope the Executive of the Guyana Teachers’ Union would move to suspend Mr. King from his position until his trial is over. Looking forward to hear what will be the Union’s position.
He should voluntarily step down until this matter is fully adjudicated. A school teacher should never be under this cloud of suspicion.
They should move to administratively suspend him since the charges were brought against him.
Well King boy if you commit the crime ,you have to do the time.We will miss you at Nationals next week.
Represeted by Mark Waldron . Case dismiss, you watch.
Another accusation of child molesting by a person in a trusted position.
NSPCC is needed in guyana so badly to help children understand what to expect from adults and by the same way adults need to learn how to avoid compromising situations that lead false accusations.
Again the law exposes this guy and his charges to the public if he was cleared mud sticks and his life is ruined. arrested people should not be exposed until a strong case is on the way.

GHRA…GHRA……..GHRA……GHRA
Well I really would like to have some more details on this case I am not a lawyer nor am I a legal expert. The sum does not add up. I trust that Justice will be served based on more fort coming evidence; if this is true what Colin did my heart goes out to the teen but if its just a motive to scilence him and all the accomplishments through negoiations whith the GOG for a better standard of living of teachers, my question is how further in the gutter do we go?
What accomplishments? King merely attached his name to what Jagdeo offered him and the Union. If he were such a visionary leader, would he have accepted a multi year deal with the government that bound the teachers salary to to a level below the inflationary rate in Guyana? Further, king accepted duty free concessions for his Principals with out realising that most of them are unable to pay the bank for the vehicles – no travel allowances to help them with the payment. So Najbar, there is no need to silence Mr. King. If he did have sex with a minor, then he must pay for his crime. On the other hand, if he didn’t, then he should be set free. Until thats proven, he should be suspended from his position.
Mr. King,
I have personally known you since the 80’s, and though not condemning you before the facts, I am surprised that your name would be mentioned in something like this.
May justice be served.
I have a great regard for Chief Magistrate (ag), Melissa Robertson, and strongly object to the insinuation, which could be interpreted as libellous,by Mr. Bora Pork.
