I really enjoy the comments being made by “Guyanese” who are residing in foreign lands. They seem to know what ails Guyana from their soft spongy couch. It is a real pity that these same individual had to flee Guyana when things were rough and now can’t control their mouths. Maybe too much pork and beef in the system. I guess this is better than the Bully Beef during the Burnham days. Who is better suited to run the country, Basmattie or Jagdeo? I will take Jagdeo any time. One more roti for the PPP!!

there is one guy who always refer to the 55% of guyanese who voted the PPP into office,I believe this may be so based on the traditional pattern of ethnic preferences in Guyana’s politics.But it is also very true that a vast majority of that percentage was coherced into voting that way and are regretting that they did so every day of their lives.When you have influencial people like Pandit Reepu and the one from New York that died lately(name too long),what else do you expect.

Sorry, KM, I forgot to mention the other 12 reasons why torture is wrong. Here they are, again:
Why is torture wrong?
1. It is inhumane and degrading treatment or punishment.
2. It is a form of treatment or punishment that has been abandoned by civilized nations.
3. It can be administered to the wrong person, as in a case of mistaken identity.
4. It presumes guilt before guilt has been proved in a court of law.
5. It can extract unreliable information as people under torture will confess anything.
6. It dehumanizes those who administer it.
7. It coarsens the conscience of those who condone, tolerate or advocate it.
8. It is a tacit admission that the criminal justice system does not function (Beat he, if you tek he to court he gun get off or he can gie bribe and get off).
9. It does not reform the victims, only deforms them.
10. It can inflame pre-existing and simmering societal tensions.
11. It provides cannon fodder and symbolic martyrs for your antagonists.
12. It can be used on you or your loved ones when the cycle goes around and the tables are turned.

Confession after torture is not acceptable in a court. The suspect must be assumed innocent until proven guilty. The “CONFESSION” may just be made to get relief from the torturing. We all want the murder of Mr. Bisram fully investigated and the perpetrators brought to justice, but no one must be tortured to say things that may not be true.

You’re on the money, Sase. The police should not investigate itself–period! The entire investigation and its outcome will be compromised as are ALL president-ordered investigations under this Jagdeo administration.

Nation, I note Karen De Souza’s comment about Jagdeo setting himself up as the final arbitar, deciding weather the investigation after 2 weeks is adequate or not. I would underline that comment for everyone. It is the most important point worthy of note in the entire article as it should direct us to a process that starts out being compromised and flawed and therefore invalid in any system of govt that claims to be a democracy.

Guyana has many retired jurists who can oversee this exercise with the full trust of the people. If Jagdeo keeps acting like a stakeholder in this entire process, he should not be surprised if Guyanese think that he’s got something to hide.

Besides, dictators do this all the time in installing themselves as the final arbitar: they set themselves up as the sole Supreme Court Justice, which is exactly what Jagdeo is attempting to do here. It is unconstitutional!

One can’t help but wonder, in taking this risk and at such an undemocratic time in Guyana’s history, why with allegations swirling around Roger Khan’s relationship with his administration, alleged child-solicitation from the Office of the President itself, the continued harrassment of Benschop–free speech still under vicious attack….WHY????!!!! What bone does Jagdeo have in this dog-hunt.

Let’s keep our eyes wide open and alert. If it walks like a duck, it quacks like a duck, it usually IS a duck…

Here are some reasons to employ deterrant.

To expose the Klu KLUX KLAN
To expose the machine behind Dr King/President Kennedy murders
To bring down the Mafia
To rid the world of Nuclear Power
To capture the criminals with high power weapons who went on the shooting spree
To rid Guyana of Drugs
To capture and elimnate the wicked who is making Guyana a Hell

Mavin the ppp is too weak to govern to the country. The friendiness and lawlessness is what have the country in this mess.

Look we speak of sovereignty, but the country needs oversight for it to work properly.

An example is the torture story, this was going on as long as noah was in sunday school, but all of a sudden it becomes wrong.

This is just a small example. No big drug dealer was never imprisoned in guyana.

Now how long you think this will continue unabated, no country can survive like that.

I’ve put forward 12 reasons why that torture is wrong. A blogger just supplied me with a 13th reason. It’s this: When torture is committed by the coercive arms of the state it distracts attention unnecessarily from the original issues so that they become drowned and forgotten. Solution: Just don’t torture. Focus on good policing and justice to address the original issues. That’s why there are things like police training schools and law schools. Do they teach to beat?
