A 25-year-old man who sustained a broken left arm following an accident on the West Coast Demerara (WCD) was on Friday admitted a patient to the male surgical ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

Vishal Singh-Lallman of 30 Hague WCD related that he was riding his motorcycle in a southern direction in the vicinity of Den Amstel when he noticed a vehicle approaching in his lane.

Singh-Lallman said the vehicle had on its high-beam lights which blinded him. Though he tried to signal to the driver to dim his lights, the injured man said, his efforts were futile and in a bid to avoid crashing head-on into the speeding vehicle, he had no choice but to run his motorcycle off the road and into a nearby trench.

He said the pillion rider was pitched off cycle and landed in the trench also but sustained no injuries.

Singh-Lallman’s incisors were also broken and had to be extracted. He also received injuries to his chest and scratches and bruises about the body.

Meanwhile, a press release sent by the GPH said that at 02:42 hrs, Singh-Lallman was taken to the Accident and Emergency Unit after he reportedly lost control of the motorcycle and ran into a trench.

We cannot be angry with this man because he is probably telling the TRUTH…..there are many drivers who are using FOG LIGHTS, yes that bright bright light and they are putting it on high beam too….then there are some drivers who are putting on their light as early as 4:30 pm…..and i have also noticed this trend where everyone is driving with high beam lights…Stabroek News, you need to get a reporter out there to get this….

    • Bung Nabel CANADA says:

Although the misuse of high-beam lights is an issue here, [rightfully so], we have to consider the physical dynamics [height] of an approaching vehicle, and the trajectory of it’s light-beam shone, on the squattiness of the other approaching vehicle.
Also, to be considered, is one vehicle on a peak and the other one in a valley?
Any engineers out here, besides ‘internet generals’?

  2. Never Mind GUYANA says:

I am sorry for the fella with the broken arm and other injuries .The story about these HID or high beam lights is an on going problem .These TYCOON children is spending lots of money to have the brightest light and the loudest music in there vehicle.

  5. La Dorada UNITED STATES says:

Thank God this one didn’t end in tragedy.

Some of the worst accidents in Guyana happen in the wee hours. People think they are alone on the roads and fail to stop at lights and major roads , not to mention the speeding. I try to be even more cautious and watchful driving at those hour in Guyana. Blackouts and abuse of the high beams are another story. Just slow down.

  6. Ginger56 (There's No Place Like Home) UNITED STATES says:

It’s good to see resident Guyanese responding to the issues at hand, keep it up and let your voice be heard.

As for drivers having lights on high beam, charges should be instituted against them to stop this lawless, inconsiderate behavior.

  7. corbain GUYANA says:

Traffic cops cars have them too…where you think all the bribes ending up?

Fancy cars with bright lights, shine wheels, and loud music.

  8. Romaladie CANADA says:

This is very true, and there are many motorists out there who drive with their high beam lights on ,it is becoming a regular thing now, with the influx of increase traffic on our roads, the motorcyclist and cyclist are at a disadvantage and are forced off the roads .The Police Tarffic Dept. should get serious and make sure that motorist obey the rules.

  9. dubaiciti UNITED STATES says:

This is such a tragedy, what is the purpose of driving with these high beam lights? Traffic department needs to take a serious look at this situation and put laws in place. I see it all the time whenever I am in Guyana, (to and from the airport even at 3 in the morning) and quite frankly, it is not just stupid and unnecessary, it is downright dangerous and annoying. Drivers, please have coms consideration for your fellow man out there. Clearly we can see the result of this, and it is not at all pleasant.

    • stabruk CANADA says:

The reason “why” because Guyana doesn’t have street lights and there are cows on the roads…I am not saying that they should not dim their lights when approach an on coming vehicles, in respect to that person saftey and theirs.

  10. CFO GUYANA says:

There are many streets / roads which are unlighted and with animals roaming wildly a driver has little choice but to use a high beam. However, the problem is that many replace the regular bulb with brighter ones which should not be allowed.
