A man who was deported to Guyana from the US early yesterday morning and arrived on a Delta Airlines flight was refused entry after immigration officials could find no records of him being Guyanese.

Stabroek News understands that the man was expected to be returned to the United States early this morning after spending yesterday and part of last night at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.

A senior police officer last evening confirmed that entry was refused to the man after he reportedly “lied to officials in the US about him being Guyanese.”

Reports indicate that while the man may not have been born in Guyana he does have links to Guyana through his parents who are reportedly both Guyanese. However, he was born in Suriname and has been living in the US for the past 30 years.

“But …he has never been to Guyana so why should we accept him?” a source asked yesterday. The source said the man was incarcerated in the US after he was convicted of committing violent crimes. The source questioned how Guyanese officials in Wash-ington could have issued the man with travel documents for Guyana when his citizenship was not confirmed.

Attempts by a relative of the man’s parents to see him were futile, according to the source.

because is only guyenese get deported they got alot of nervs

    • NeNe {Say It Ain't So} UNITED STATES says:

They who? Guyanese officials in Washington issued the travel documents. Read carefully!!!

    • WAR_AFRICA CANADA says:

As the offspring of Guyanese he has Guyanese citizenship. We are always speaking of the Guyanese mafia in the U.K. but many of them were not born in Guyana. I guess since he is a deportee there is no room at the inn for him. If he traveled to the U.S. with or on a Guyanese passport I can see the reason for sending him to Guyana. A deportee is returned to his last country of residence and not necessarily where he was born.

    • Valedictorian CANADA says:

He is Guyanese. The Guyana consulate issued him travel papers. The US should refuse to accept his return. Suriname could take him – not!

    • By his deeds shall a man be known UNITED STATES says:

The Guyanese officials in Washington who issued the man with travel documents for Guyana when his citizenship was not confirmed should be suspended immediately pending investigations.

    • Georgie UNITED STATES says:

Wrong War_Africa ! He has to apply for citizenship based on his parents country of birth.

    • Central Ole Boi CAYMAN ISLANDS says:

NOT BEING BORN IN A GUYANA OR NOT HAVING RESIDED IN GUYANA DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE NOT A CITIZEN OF GUYANA. FOR EXAMPLE RIGHT HERE IN THE CARIBBEAN, A CHILD BORN TO A GUYANESE PARENT IN THE CAYMAN ISLANDS IS NOT GIVEN A CAYMANIAN BIRTH CERTIFICATE NOR IS HE CONSIDERED A CITIZEN OF CAYMAN. BY CAYMAN LAW HE TAKES THE NATIONALITY OF HIS PARENTS AND IT IS FOR HIS PARENTS TO RESGISTER HIS BIRTH IN GUYANA NOT AS BEING BORN IN GUYANA BUT AS A CITIZEN OF GUYANA BORN IN THE CAYMAN ISLANDS, OTHERWISE THE CHILD WILL HAVE NO NATIONALITY.

    • Georgie UNITED STATES says:

Utter nonsense Central Ole Boi ! That is a ploy by Cayman Islands to restrict the nationality of persons born in The Cayman Islands. A country cannot issue a birth certificate to a person who was not born in that country. That is hard and fast according to international law. Challenge Cayman ruling in the world court. But the poor people cannot do such a thing or they will be deported.
Check and see how many Caucasian South Africans are residing in Grand Cayman and their positions in the British led government. Just a thought.

  2. KBOS.VIPFLYIER.CYYZ UNITED STATES says:

Wow the genius in Guyana their best again. Atleast the deportee gets to see the U.S. again after all. I would want to be deported back to the U.S. if I was him too.

  3. Brian Singh GUYANA says:

At the rate the Americans are going, they might send Bernie Madoff to Guyana, after his jail term.

  4. ENGLISHMAN UNITED KINGDOM says:

    AFTER YEARS OF ABUSE OF THE SYSTEM SOMEBODY SEEMS TO BE RAKING ACTION;
WHY ON EARTH SHOULD GUYANA HAVE TO ACCEPT CRIMINALS AFTER THEY HAVE SERVED TIME IN PRISONS ABROAD, MOREOVER THE CRIMINALS WERE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLY THEIR TRADE BY THE ADOPTED COUNTRY WHO WOULD HAVE HAD GRANTED THEM CITIZENSHIP.

    • kenyatta UNITED STATES says:

ENGLISHMAN,there is no need to scream and get your knickers in a bunch this man was not a US citizen he was too busy with criminal activities to become naturalised, don’t blame the US.for sending him to guyana blame the airheads at the Guyanese embassy in Washington, for issuing travel documents.

    • Daze TanteTOGETHER WE STAND DEVIDED WE FALL) NETHERLANDS says:

In this man’s he has three nationalities, where by he claims to only two, he had to denounce one….if there is no record of being a US/Guyanese then he has to be a Suriname/US citizen. At least that is how it works here in Holland/the Netherlands.I have a friend in with his status, she had to denounce her Guyanese nationality and is now a Dutch/Surinamese

    • Can10 UNITED STATES says:

He is Guyanese. I have a few family members that were born in Suriname. Suriname does not automatically give anyone who is born in that country of non Surinamese citizenship. One has to make application to become a citizen of Suriname in such a case. He is therefore Guyanese if his parents did not file that application for citizenship. Im surprised that guyana government does not know this. Its a known fact of the high handed ruling of Suriname and nothing to do with Guyana. But as Guyanese we should recieve him because the Suriname government will not accept him or anyone else that was born there whose parents were not from that Country

  5. Heaven BARBADOS says:

This happens all the time in Caribbean countries. Sometimes the person is from Africa and may have heard about a place in a Caribbean island and gives the Americans just enough information to make their story believable. In Barbados there was a case of an African who claimed to be from here but his deception was discovered by consulate staff in the US who checked the information he gave to the Americans.

    • Sister UNITED STATES says:

Heaven, a few years back a man born in Lousiana USA was deported to Guyana, in spite of his pleas with US officials that he was an American.

    • kenyatta UNITED STATES says:

Heaven, that man was found out because Barbados has competent people representing them unlike like Guyana.

  6. true guyanese(luv mi kuntry an d people dem) UNITED STATES says:

ignorant of the laws is no excuse..the man claim he is a guyanese and the us people belive him because he is a criminal..so they think all criminals come from guyana..that shows how they rate the country and poeple…so any one can claims he or she from guyana…so who civilised and who is the jackass….

    • cook-up-rice UNITED STATES says:

That’s true. who could remember an american that mistakenly killed his fiancee sister becuase of the close resemblance and escape to guyana where he was living a normal life.

my point is: guyana will become the santuary for all criminals…if not already.

    • NeNe {Say It Ain't So} UNITED STATES says:

True GT, you cannot read the headlines only and make comments. Read the full story – the Guyanese officials in Washington are responsible for the screw up. They issued the travel docs.

    • James CANADA says:

well that’s why they have to take him back now and deal with their problem, or they can have him on every delat flight back and forth.

    • Proud Guyanese !! TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO says:

while i agree with you, Guyanese themselves are the ones responsible for they way we are viewed by the world,it’s a classic case of “one rotten mango spoil the whole basket”

    • Evan Thomas CANADA says:

The law in Guyana provides that he can claim Guyanese citizenship if his parents are Guyanese…he could be born on mars for that matter. It was likely on this basis that he was issued with a Guyanese passport although born in Suriname as the Gt officials alleged. Guess he would have made the relevant application to the Guyana embassy. Otherwise, it shows a total lack of communication between the embassy in DC and the authorities here or someone in GT is playing the fool.

    • Georgie UNITED STATES says:

Evan ! No passport is issued . An official paper with relevant seal and signatures that the airlines and Guyanese immigration has to scrutinze.

    • MARY MOTHER OF YOUNG MAN UNITED STATES says:

YOUR GUYANA GOVERNMENT BECAUDE THEY READ TO CONSTITUTION TO ME TO EDUCATE THAT THEY ARE ALLOWED TO TAKE FUGITIVES

  7. GUYANA I AM SO PROUD OF YOU IN THIS MATTER, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, LET HIM GO BACK TO THE U.S. OR WHERE HE WAS BORN, WE DO NOT NEED THIS IN GUYANA, THESE PEOPLE ARE GIVING OUR COUNTRY A BAD NAME AND THEY ARE NOT EVEN NATIONALS OF THE COUNTRY.

JUST LIKE THE ONES THAT RAN OUT AND CAN’T COME BACK, HOW ABOUT THE ONES LIVING FOR OVER 10-15 YEARS ILEGAL, HOW SAD.

THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT TALK SO BAD ABOUT GUYANA OVER HERE IN THE WESTERN WORLD, AND THEN THEY FLY IN AND PRETEND THEY LOVE THE COUNTRY, TAKE EVERYTHING OUT AND GIVE NOTHING BACK, NOT EVEN SOME PRECIOUS TIME.

    SHAME ON THEM

  8. Reddy BARBADOS says:

    “Source” ? Junk journalism

  9. NAVYSEAL (JAGDEO & GOVERNMENT= FAILURE TO GUYANA)) TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO says:

Once da man parent is Guyanese what does that make him. I guess a Arab. The Guyanese authorities in America was right to give him Guyana travel documents. To make things easier send him to Barbados, see if Reddy wud care.

    • freespeech UNITED STATES says:

HE IS NOT REGISTERED AS A GUYANESE> although his parents are guyanese.

    • Marc FRANCE says:

If he had Olympics or World Title class Guyana would have surely claim him as a son of the soil.

    • yardigurl29 UNITED STATES says:

navyseal, i love your comment. but seriously, not all, but most of the deportees are the ones who come back home to run their illegal, americanized trade of gunmanship, gang warfare, intimidation and lawlessness in our islands.

    • gtmassive UNITED STATES says:

Marc I agree with you, after all we have claimed Leona Lewis, Rihanna, Deborah Cox and every famous person that wasn’t born in Guyana but have one or more parents who are Guyanese.

    • NAVYSEAL (NOT A PARTIME SOLDIER - ONCE A SOLDIER ALWAYS A SOLDIER)) TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO says:

      YARDIGIRL29

We gonna start with Roger Khan at the top of that list, drug smuggler, gun runner, so called police, so called politician, but definitely a criminal. DaGovament neva hear bout he, but somehow he end up as defacto police commisioner.

  10. EX GDF OFFICER TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO says:

If he is not Guyanese he should be sent back to the States. Let the US government determine his true country of citizenship. He is responsible for the mess he has found himself in. However, it is inhumane, the US practice of deporting persons to the country of birth where they know no one, and after living in the US all their lives.
