A suspected bandit was last evening fatally shot after he and another man reportedly attempted to rob a grocery in the East Ruimveldt Market. Up to press time, the identity of the dead man was unknown, but villagers told this newspaper that the deceased was not from the area.
According to reports, the now dead man and another man approached the grocery shop around 7 pm with a gun and attempted to rob the owner of the shop. However, while accosting the owner of the shop, a reputed licensed firearm owner, confronted the bandits and there was an exchange of gunfire. It was reportedly during this exchange the man was killed. The other bandit reportedly escaped.
During the exchange, a civilian Kuode McDonald was shot in his arm. Mc Donald, who is a security guard, was subsequently taken to the hospital last evening.
It is unclear whether the shooter was taken into police custody. Police are investigating the incident.

Kyode Mcdonald….oh my, this is my BRC squaddie…hopes he gets better soon.
this is the way, kudos to the police who shot the bandit.
lambada, i see reading is not one of your strong suit. the police did not shoot the man.
LAMBADA LOVES TO JUMP ON EVERY COMMENT WITHOUT READING THE FACTS…I NOW SEE WHY HE SUPPORTS THE GOVERNMENT.
the holiday’s season fast approaching and the poor man must look good and have money so they gone robb people ….wonder if the human rights and opposition gone seek outside help against the shooter…
See like you are trying to score points here with your sarcastic comments.
You need a cup of coffee…..it must be scorching HOTTT too.
S.F. weather too hot for coffee maybe some ice-tea.
“Police are investigating the incident”.
To those who senselessly rave on about the DEATH PENALTY IS NOT A DETERRANT; I say that suspected bandit who was last evening fatally shot WILL NOT BE DOING THAT AGAIN.
I swear he has learnt his lessson.
satish, FYI Guyana do have the death penality,- u need to learn more bout whats going on in Guyana before u start typing , use the computer in front of you and find your facts and figures before you start typing. Or have a trip back to GT.
Satish:
I hope they don’t charge Kyode for excessive force. He should immediately call his attorney (C.Y.A) or basically, cover your butt!
Too late for ‘learning the lesson’. He is actually educating other criminals and teaching it. He is more an asset deceased!
‘well it is:
Kyode: 1.0
bandits : no score
TRY READING MY COMMENT S L O W L Y THIS TIME, NOTSOSmart.
slowish, understand carefully, death penalty or shooting down criminals is not a deterrant to criminals in Guyana,…. look at the “stats and figures” – if criminals are put off by police shooting at them or the death penalty, they surely are not showing it. If anything they are more determined not to get caught my any means necessary.
Whilst I am not expecting an apology, NOTSOSmart; I trust you now understand my comment.
Thanks to the licensed firearm holder he was able to repel this cowardly act, this is what you get when you rob innocent shopkeeper.
the GHRA will be going after him.
he is a license fire arm “PRIVATE SECURITY GUARD”
amenra
will dis one be added/padded to your joint opposition dossier?
EE my friend, why not? The joint opposition think it’s on a roll now and what they are about to do will win them election in Guyana.
time for citizens take the law into their own hands, as the criminals.
time to fight back.
If the shooter is licensed, take a statement from him and let him go his merry way, with his firearm.
SN stop publishing garbage and get the facts right.
now you can use the AXE.
There was an exchange of gunfire and the bandit was killed.Let the shooter go he was acting in defence of the shopkeeper and also in self defence.
