In its second statement in a month on the issue of a third term for President Bharrat Jagdeo, the PPP said yesterday that mischievous elements are acting up, and the party again distanced itself from the third term campaign.
The party criticized the campaign and its latest twist where television advertisements are appearing to drum up support for the President to contest the next elections, in addition to a billboard being erected in the city.
“This is at a time when President Jagdeo has stated, repeatedly, that he was not interested in a third term…
“Clearly, whoever are involved have an agenda.
“At this point we can only assume that this is being done to cause confusion and distrust in our country, particularly among PPP supporters. “The PPP denounces this campaign!” the party statement said.
Last month the PPP released a statement saying that it viewed the campaign to remove the term limit for the President to be mischievous and designed to create confusion and division among the people.
The party also noted the comments of party executive Reepu Daman Persaud at the Diwali celebrations this year in relation to the same subject but stressed that “he was not mandated to speak on behalf of the party on this issue and he was not doing so.”
Meanwhile, a group calling itself the Guyanese Coalition For Jagdeo Third Term (GCFJTT) has been campaigning for a third term for President Jagdeo by distributing flyers and buttons amid growing public concerns that a move may be afoot to amend the constitution to remove term limits.
This shouldn’t even be in today’s news…what are they trying to do..remind us about a 3rd term fuh duh one…that is neva gonna happen…first thing there is no third term because the PPPeee will lose the election….END OF STORY!!!

The leader of the PPP is General Secretary Donald Ramotar. The leader of the PPP government is President Bharrat Jadgeo. Ramotar is being promoted by some in the PPP as a contender in 2011, so too is Ralph Ramkarran. Reepu Damon Persaud an old guard was the first to declare a third term for Jag at the last PPP congress. Reepu likes Jag and still got influence over the Jaganities and rural supporters. Jag said he not interested in a third term but never tried to find who are the third term organisers or publicy asked them to stop. Get the drift guys.

There will be no third term for President Jagdeo so he better get accustomed to this idea – the sooner the better. Freedom House is well aware of all the players behind this campaign. Many people who were appointed by President Jagdeo or otherwise benefit from him being President feel threaten by the fact that he will soon be president no more. This is the kind of thing that creates dictatorships, hence all the more reason for no third term.
I agree with the PPP. There are mischievous opposition agents out there trying to paint the party as lacking in morals and political ethics.
How dare they try to besmirch the stellar reputation of the PPP.

The PPP is going to wake up one day before 2011 and discover that it is the only one left living in denial. The writing is on the wall but only the PPP can’y see, and it may be because the leaders don’t want to accept their chances of becoming President are being diminished. They created a monster that is about to consume them!

The masterminds in the GCFJTT are as muddle-headed and unappealing as the acronym suggests. It would be better if they use their publicity and campaign money for a charitable cause to soften the suffering of the poor.
