A 22-year-old man, who along with two women allegedly robbed another man of a quantity of cash and a cell phone, was granted bail yesterday in the sum of $70,000 when he appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Alfred Benjamin of Charlestown pleaded not guilty to a robbery charge which stated that he along with others robbed Al Lewis of $20,000 and a $30,000 cell phone on November 1 at Longden Street.
Prosecutor Stephen Telford stated that on the day in question Lewis was on his way home when Benjamin and two women approached him.
He said one of the women dealt Lewis a cuff to his face while Benjamin took the money and cell phone from his pants’ pockets. They then ran away.
He said Lewis reported the incident to the police station and pointed out Benjamin to a policeman when he saw him subsequently. Benjamin’s lawyer, Adrian Thompson, applied for reasonable bail for him stating that he was not the person who had committed the robbery.
Benjamin is scheduled to make another court appearance on December 2.
