In observance of International Education Week (IEW) earlier this month the US Embassy held several outreach sessions at Georgetown and Berbice secondary schools which aimed at sharing information about studying in the US with over 100 students.

IEW, observed from November 16-20, celebrates international educational exchange and its positive impact on the United States and the world, the embassy said in a press release yesterday.
“The initiative,” the release said, “highlights the benefits of studying abroad for Americans and seeks to attract international students” to the US as well as help them gain a better understanding of its society and values.
St Stanislaus College, St Rose’s High, St Joseph’s High, the Bishops’ High, the New Guyana School, Queen’s College, School of the Nations, Berbice High and New Amsterdam Multilateral School were some of the school visited by US Embassy personnel last week.
Members of the team fielded questions and presented materials to the schools at the end of each session.
The release also advised that parents and students who have questions about studying in the US could visit the embassy’s website at http://georgetown,usembassy.gov/ or http:// connect.state.gov which is the official IEW website specifically designed for people interested in international exchanges.

Good idea but i hope they are telling them about the cost of studing abroad.
Darren How does that affect the price of cheese? With the help the Guyana government get from the USA they can afford to provide quality education and keep their citizens there to further develop their country. 1+1= 2 anywhere you go or any language you study in.
More charity.
After 17 years of squandered opportunities, Guyana is reduced to a country of mendicants under the PPP.
I agree, the money is lost and Guyanese live on the handouts form other countries, its a sad thing to see.
Big industrialsed “Western” nations like the US,traditionlly have programmes in ace to highlight what they eee as benefits of their socio-economic and political system. The US has a big budget for this, especially in certain developing countries.
Other missions such as Cuba,People’s Republic of China, Venezuela, and Brazil must deepen their outreach so as to give a good balance and provide our youngetsrs with alternatives…
WHY YOUR PPP REGIME CANT PROVIDE FOR THEIR YOUNGSTERS STOP
THE BEGGING AND BE INDEPENDENT…
No wonder I can’t sleep. My child is headed to college, and I have no idea how I going to foot the bill.
Kudos to the US officals for informing the students.
It is good that students know where to go for CORRECT information in case they need it.
Students, do not allow negative comments prevent you from working towards your dreams. Life offers choices, make good ones.
The US presence there can see first hand what being ignorant in Guyana does to the population. I’m with SOL.
Knowledge is LIFE!
Good luck to these kids in their future endeavours and what you must always think of is ( BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND BELIEVE IN WHAT TOMORROW HOLDS FOR YOU, ASPIRE TO REACH YOUR GOALS AND NEVER STOP DREAMING )Knowledge is Power and what you have in your head no one can take away. I love to see the students in my homeland in their school uniforms it makes me so proud of them and it also reminds me of my school days and thats way back in the 70’s. I am aware that dressing like that in school you have a lot of respect for yourself and others not like here they are wearing their pants down to their knees and the girls are showing every part of their bodies out and respect is a word they do not know the meaning of, here in these public schools.
Martin Luther had a dream but unfortunately he did not live to see his dream became a reality….
Thanks to the American Embassy for their compassion towards our future generation. Keep up the good work, we have a lot of brilliant kids in Guyana.
Nonsense Hotmomma ! I guarantee you that some of those same public school students in the USA that you denounce would, academically , destroy the majority of your prized students in Guyana. Wanna bet !
ITS ALL PART OF THE BRAIN DRAIN, THE KIDS GO TO COLLEGE IN THE U.S.A AND THEN THEY STAY THERE AND DEVELOP THE COUNTRY, BECAUSE COMING BACK TO GUYANA MEANS NO JOBS UNLESS YOURE POLITICALLY CONNECTED OR STARVATION WAGES.
