Highbury man dies after live wire mishap

Verendra Nauth Tirbohan was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital and subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed.

He and another person were sitting on top of a combine that was being transported on a low-bed trailer when tragedy struck.

Eyewitnesses told Stabroek News that Tirbohan got up from the combine and used a stick to move the wire out of the way.

However the stick slipped off causing the wire to come into contact with the back of his neck. Onlookers said the driver who was taking the combine to the New Forest area was not aware that the youth had been struck and kept on driving.

They then started to shout for the driver to stop and they rushed to render assistance. He was laid to rest yesterday.
